Customers say: Quick response

"He quickly and quietly replaced a ceiling fan for us. The new fan looked and operated perfectly and he hauled away the old one. He was neat, courteous and I thought his rate was reasonable. I will use him again for my electrical needs."

"Ed Riley is extremely knowledgeable about what causes lighting and how to protect from it. He explained to me which and how structures develop static electricity that lead to lighting discharges in a way that the physics made sense to me. They were also reasonably priced and kept their word. Definitely recommend them."

"The problem turned out to be a burned out small electric door switch. I believe the price was way too expensive for the service performed and the price of the door switch. What more can I say? It got done."

"F&L Electric did an excellent job on my electrical work. The owner, Fabian Tanklesky came out and gave me an estimate and he couldn't have been nicer. He came back with two workers and explained what they were to do. Both workers were very nice and did a good job. The next day, George(one of the workers) came back and did more of the work. He did an outstanding job and was very nice, providing excellent customer service. I would recommend F & L Electric to do an excellent job and terrific customer service. They even sent me a "Thank You" note, thanking me for allowing them to do my work."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Yes, splicing wires can cause a fire if the splicing is done incorrectly. This is why splicing wires is a task best handled by electricians. One of the most common mistakes made when splicing wires is not using a wire connector. Without a wire connector, electricity flows unsheathed and can result in a home electrical fire.

Yes, Christmas lights on a timer are just as safe as any other Christmas lights are. Most fires caused by holiday lights are due to damage to the strings of lights themselves or from too many lights being plugged into one circuit.

No, wiring does not need to be redone to get a dimmer switch, as they work with single-pole and three-way switches. Just ensure you choose a dimmer that is compatible with your wiring, fixture, and lightbulbs. Most homes built after 1985 have neutral wiring and work with almost all dimmers. If your home was built before 1985 and you don’t have an updated electrical system, you may have to use a non-neutral wiring dimmer.

Each meter should have a serial number printed or engraved on the face of the meter. Make sure the serial number of the meter you are reading matches your account with the power company. If you live in an apartment complex, the meters are likely located all together. Yours should be labeled according to your apartment unit.

This type of conversion is easy—you’ll just need to upgrade to the correct amperage in your wires before wiring the new outlet. However, these projects can be tricky without intermediate electrical knowledge, so consider consulting a pro before flipping any switches on your circuit breaker.
