This is the standard thickness for solid wood or MDF shelving and should be able to hold a good amount of weight (around 80 pounds for MDF and 130 pounds for plywood). If you’re storing tools, camera equipment, or other heavier items, you can go up to 1 1/4-inch thickness for maximum strength and durability.

There are a few different types of paints that you can use on cabinets—latex, acrylic, and oil-based. Most cabinet painters choose latex, but acrylic paints are also a great choice. In addition to the type of paint, you also need to select a finish. Matte finishes tend to be less durable, whereas semi-gloss or high-gloss options are better for highly-used cabinets. 

It’s important to note that regular wall paint does not adhere to cabinets correctly—you’ll need cabinet-specific paint. 

It’s a good idea to give your cabinets a quick once-over every week. Every six months or so, you may want to double down on the elbow grease and give the exteriors a more thorough wipe down. Additionally, you'll probably need to pull out all the stops once a year to really deep clean the interior. If you’re not too keen on the idea of cleaning your own kitchen cabinets, you can always hire a house cleaner near you to tackle it for you. They’ll have the expertise to make sure every cabinet is spotless.

Standard kitchen cabinet drawers measure between 12 and 36 inches wide, 24 inches deep, and between 4 and 10 inches tall. Drawers are designed to fit with your cabinets, so a 36-inch-wide cabinet would have a 36-inch-wide drawer. The best way to clean kitchen cabinets is to use a soft cloth soaked in warm water and mild dish soap. If your cabinets are made of sealed hardwood, you can deep clean them using a steam cleaner, but other cabinet materials are exempt from this type of cleaning.
