"Outstanding Service from Start to Finish! Benjamin Franklin Plumbing went above and beyond my expectations. From the moment I called, their customer service was friendly, professional, and responsive. The plumber arrived right on time, explained everything clearly, and got the job done quickly and efficiently. They showed real respect for my home, cleaned up after the work, and made sure everything was perfect before leaving. It’s rare to find such honesty, quality, and professionalism all in one company. "This went very well.  We found Holman's on Angies list and made an appointment for the next morning.  The crew showed up on time.  The broken flange problem turned up after we set up the appointment when we noticed water on the laundry room ceiling.   Although this was a new and larger problem they tackled it as well as the other two issues.  It required pulling the toilet, replacing the flange with a higher quality steel one and putting a board in  under the floor to  mount the flange more securely.   Even before they honored the Angies List coupon the price was very reasonable considering the time required to do the fix.  All the fixes were very satisfactory.    Would definitely call them again.

"Replaced my outdoor faucet quickly that I couldn't budge with my tools. Answered all my other plumbing questions. Price was high, but I've never seen a plumber or electrician charge less than a couple hundred no matter how simple. I have peace of mind though with the year warranty."

Toilets questions, answered by experts

The lifespan of a toilet can vary significantly. While the porcelain body itself can last up to 50 years or more with proper care, most plumbers suggest an average functional lifespan of 10 to 25 years, and many homeowners replace their toilets after about 20 years.

A toilet's longevity is influenced by factors like maintenance quality, hard water buildup, and damage to the finish. It's also important to note that internal components have much shorter lifespans than the bowl; for example, flappers may last only a few years, while fill valves can last around 10 years.

Even if an older toilet is still functional, consider upgrading to a high-efficiency model to save on water costs.

Yes, many services include removing and disposing of old toilets. Confirm with your provider.

The cost to install a new toilet typically runs from $225 to $530. This doesn’t include the price of the toilet itself, which can cost $90 to $1,500 depending on the model and features you choose. You can save money if you choose to install a toilet yourself. However, you might want to hire a pro for this project.

"Due to the many complexities of replacing a toilet flange, it is typically a job best left to the pros," says Jeff Botelho, Angi Expert Review Board member and plumber. "Many times it isn't as simple and straightforward as 'pop off the old one and pop on a new one' because the flange is either glued on (PVC/ABS), soldered on (brass/copper), or caulked in place with a lead & oakum joint (cast iron) and none of these things can be easily reversed without years of training and repetitive practice."

The order of your bathroom renovation should prevent damage to the completed work. Start with demolition and removing the old fixtures. Then, address structural repairs or water damage, if needed. Next, tackle the rough-in phase for plumbing and electrical work, install waterproofing, and work on wall treatments like tile or paint. Install your shower or bathtub, toilet, vanity, and sink. Flooring goes in after major fixtures but before the toilet. Lastly, install new lighting fixtures, mirrors, and other finishing touches as desired.

According to the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC), the distance between your trap and the vent should be no more than 6 feet. For your vent to work properly, it needs to feed into the drain line within 6 feet of trapways that connect to it. Using this formula, you should be able to determine whether you will need multiple vent lines.
