"We scheduled this roof replacement from a distance as we live in Houston and we are helping parents sell their house in West Texas.  I chose Hartman Roofing due to the excellent ratings on Angie's List.  The entire process was extremely professional and the communication was excellent with Kirby.  He answered questions, was quick to reply by phone and email and was also helpful in answering questions from our insurance carrier.  I would highly recommend to anyone needing their roof repaired or replaced.  Excellent experience.

Roofing FAQs, answered by experts

No, a metal roof will not make your house hot. In fact, metal roofs help keep your home cooler by reflecting heat instead of absorbing and transmitting it inside. Metal also has high thermal conductivity, which means it gains and loses heat quickly. While the sun may heat the metal, the roof rapidly transfers that heat back into the air rather than retaining it. This reflective property can lead to energy cost savings of up to 40%, as your cooling system won't need to work as hard to maintain a consistent indoor temperature.

Yes, a new roof will add value to your home, often providing a return on investment (ROI) of between 60% and 70%. Not only will a new roof boost curb appeal, but savvy homebuyers will also know that a new roof means they won’t have to worry about roof leaks and related damage for years after closing. They’ll also know that they’ll save money by potentially having decades before they need to worry about paying for repairs or replacement.

A roof's ability to handle snow depends on its strength and the snow's weight, as wet snow is much heavier than dry, fluffy snow. While designs in snowy regions often allow for 35 to 50 pounds per square foot, a general guideline is that a typical roof can withstand about four feet of fresh snow, two feet of packed snow, or just one inch of ice. Factors like the roof's age, slope, and support structure also affect its capacity; newer, sloped roofs generally hold more weight than older, flat ones. Ice and ice dams add significant, dangerous weight. Because capacity varies, it is best to contact a professional roofing contractor or the original builder to determine the maximum snow load for your specific home.

Yes, chimney flashing is an important element in the complex system that is your roof. Chimneys (and anything else that goes through your roof) provide a great opportunity for water damage. Good flashing prevents a lot of potential damage.

White is the most energy-efficient color for roofs because solar energy reflects off white surfaces the best. Silver is also a good choice.
