"The owner, Javier, is a nice person. He and his crew helped me with my project, which included installing drywall, tape and bedding, and applying texture. I am very happy with their work. They also painted the interior of my home and installed and painted the siding. They explained every part of the process clearly, and their communication was great throughout the project. I highly recommend this company for their quality, professionalism, and fair pricing"

"David was on time and very fair. There was a mix up with the paint color that I wish they might have caught the first time. They came back promptly and fixed. Based on his customer service, I will use them again."

"Anguiano Home Renovations did an excellent job on my garage drywall repair. They were professional, on time, and very thorough. The crew reached out quickly after I posted the job, gave me the best price quote, and had the work completed the same day. They also cleaned up the area before leaving, which I really appreciated. I’m very happy with the quality of the repair and will absolutely use them again if I need any drywall work in the future. Highly recommend!"

"I had previously used Means to paint the outside of my home. I was pleased with that outcome, and they did not disappoint me painting the interior of my home.
They showed up on time all three days. Careful attention was paid to removing belongings, covering and closing off areas so that there was no mess to clean up. They let me know their lunch plans and when they would leave at the end of the day so that we could coordinate our time. The cost was in the middle of other bids I obtained from Angie's List.
Means also went above and beyond the scope of the work. On the last day, several workers finished early and rather than sit around, they repainted some woodwork. They even sealed a squirrel hole outside the home with metal and painted it to match before they finished.
I would proudly show my home to any Angie's List member that would like to view their work.

"It went wonderfully. They reinforced and leveled our subfloor with additional material and screws and built the walls up from damaged exposed drywall paper to a great level textured paintable surface. Great work."

"All the work done by Jaye Stark and his crews was excellent. In spite of the local heavy rains and flooding in May, he completed the work close to on time. Most important, where the heavy rains resulted in damage to some of the work he performed, Jaye came out quickly to repair the damage. I recommend him to anyone needed masonry work."

"Excellent job replacing bad wood with siding of slightly different type but blended in very well. Gutter installed and painting done. Looks great. They previously rebuilt the deck and did a great job there too."

"McKinley is a neighbor of mine and when I got his card I looked him up on Angieslist like I always do.  I liked his personality and his reviews showed he knew his stuff too.  I have many things around the house but the first thing was my threshold had a gap that I just knew was getting wet each time it rained.  I asked him to look at it and he said it was a simple fix.  Within a couple days it was fixed and painted, and good thing cause it rained hard after that!  I'm already thinking of other things to have him do!

Drywall questions, answered by experts

If you’re looking for a reliable plaster repair company, you should start by researching local companies in your area and reviewing their status with the Better Business Bureau. Next, you can contact the potential companies to ask about experience levels, get a list of references, and ask for examples of past work. If you have a textured wall, consider asking if they have examples or references for that particular texture. This method should help you narrow your search even further. You may also want to ask each company if they provide a warranty for their work.

Plastering and skimming are two different techniques for finishing walls. Plastering involves applying a thick layer of a plaster mixture—typically containing gypsum, lime, cement, sand, and water—to create a new surface. This process often requires multiple coats and is used for repairing significant damage or creating decorative textures. Skimming, on the other hand, is a technique that involves applying a thin layer of drywall compound or joint compound over an existing surface to smooth it out, covering minor imperfections, small cracks, or uneven textures for a polished look. Plastering is generally more costly and labor-intensive than skimming. Although some people use the terms interchangeably, they refer to different processes and materials.

You can plaster over regular drywall, but it's essential to prepare the surface properly. Before plastering, the drywall should be clean, free of dust, and any loose or peeling paint should be removed. Applying a primer specifically designed for plastering can improve adhesion. Some professionals recommend applying a base coat of plaster or joint compound to create a better surface for the plaster to adhere to. Proper preparation ensures a smooth and durable plaster finish over regular drywall.

You can usually tell if you have plaster or drywall by touch (plaster is harder, colder, and smoother than drywall) or by tapping on it (drywall sounds hollow, plaster does not). If you still cannot tell, peek under an outlet cover and check the cut edges. The rough edges show the composition of the wall. You will see either drywall (two paper sheets sandwiching gypsum material) or only plaster material (no paper sheets).

You can drywall an unheated garage because the material handles cold temperatures perfectly well. There are no risks or downsides to installing drywall in a garage that is not heated, and the material stands up to moisture and other elements quite well. Drywall will protect your unheated garage's electric wires and cables and add fire protection. However, for effective bonding, you should install drywall at a temperature of 55 degrees Fahrenheit or higher.
