"These guys were incredible! Not only did they stain my deck with the proper product, but they replaced boards that were warped or rotten. They were reliable and traveled more than an hour to get here each day until they were finished. I would recommend them for any kind of paint job."

"We are very pleased with the job they did. Starting with the quoting process and during the project the management was easy to talk with and attentive to changes that came up. Also, they do not require payment up-front and you only pay once you’ve gone through the final walk-through. The painting crew led by Letty and Jose Luis had excellent work ethic. They got there on time every day and worked diligently through sunset taking time only for a brief lunch break. Furthermore, they paid attention to detail both in painting and during cleanup. Even on the day of the final walkthrough, they gave a couple of walls another coat because they weren’t happy with the results although they looked fine to us. There were very few touch-ups required initially and they even sent someone over a week later to touch up some minor points that showed after viewing the in different lighting conditions. We would not hesitate to recommend CertaPro to friends and family."

"Highly skilled and professional. Sealed off area so house would not be subjected to drywall dust and paint. Very good job of matching texture. Repaired a 5 x 5 foot hole in ceiling from water leak."

"Highly recommend Painting Time for any paint project! We hired them to paint the exterior of our house/garage as well as a porch/deck treatment. Ricardo and his team were able to start the following week, were very punctual, and were done within a few days. They gave us a very fair price and did an amazing job! Ricardo was also very responsive to our questions over email all throughout the project, which made for a super smooth experience. We couldn't be happier with how everything turned out!"

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Wood stain is typically dry to the touch within 6 to 12 hours, but it is not fully cured at this point. You should wait at least 24 hours before applying a second coat or a protective finish. For surfaces like decks, avoid walking on them for at least 24 to 48 hours, and wait even longer before placing furniture. The full curing process can take from 24 hours to one week, depending on the type of stain. Factors like high humidity and cold temperatures can extend drying and curing times, so it's wise to allow for extra time in these conditions.

Staining a deck with a rag is typically a better option than using a brush, as it helps the stain penetrate deeper into the wood. However, both brushes and rags are best reserved for detailed work because using these tools on an entire deck can require tediously crawling around on your hands and knees. A pad applicator, sprayer, or roller are preferred alternatives to applying stain over the majority of a deck. Use a rag for railings and other detailed work, and let the wood soak up as much of the stain as possible before wiping away drips or pools.

Always wait until the morning dew has dried before you stain your deck. The stain needs a fully dry surface to sink into.

To make sure the paint won’t bubble as you apply it, make sure to paint on a day that’s cooler than 85 degrees Fahrenheit. When the temperature is too high, the paint won’t dry evenly, which can result in bubbles forming on the surface. Another way to prevent paint from bubbling is to clean the walls, apply primer, and let everything dry completely before you begin.

Limewash and whitewash are two techniques used to give brick a light, matte finish, but they differ in composition, application, and permanence. The best choice depends on your aesthetic goals and the specific surface.

Composition

  • Limewash: A natural and environmentally friendly option made from limestone, water, and sometimes pigments. It is breathable and soaks into porous surfaces like brick.

  • Whitewash: Traditionally made from lime, water, chalk, and binders, but a similar look can be achieved with watered-down white paint. It is paint-based and sits on top of the surface.

Appearance and Finish

  • Limewash: Provides a natural, textured appearance that allows the brick's character to show through. It offers a more traditional finish.

  • Whitewash: Creates a softer, more opaque finish, often used for a rustic or shabby-chic style.

Application and Permanence

  • Limewash: Is semi-permanent and can be removed, making it a good choice if you might want to change the look in the future. It requires more skill to apply and cannot be used on previously painted brick.

  • Whitewash: Is a more permanent solution. It is more forgiving to apply and can be used on painted brick. However, because it sits on the surface, it can trap moisture.

Ultimately, if you want a breathable, natural, and reversible finish for unpainted brick, limewash is a great option. If you need a more permanent, opaque coating that can be applied over painted surfaces, whitewash is the better choice. Whitewashing may also be more economical, costing approximately $1.40 to $4.20 per square foot.
