He was able to work within my budget, and got all the work done, to code, and according to a very specific specification I wrote up (they even recommended some substitution and corrections where needed). Additionally, this might be the most honest contractor ive ever worked with - I accidentally overpaid, and he caught the error and offered to refund or rebate me on another project. Of course, I was very happy to accept a rebate on another project because I wanted to continue working with this company."

Most of the time, you’ll want to use screws on your subfloor rather than nails. Nails can actually weaken plywood, whereas screws can easily penetrate without damage. That said, some contractors do prefer nails depending on the type of floor covering because they allow for more flexibility.

Not all wood that’s been softened by termites needs to be replaced. You may be able to salvage wood using a wood hardener instead of replacing beams. However, you’ll need to hire a structural engineer to assess the damage and the overall stability of the wood before making a replacement plan.

Yes, you can replace the frame around a window by completing either a partial replacement or a full replacement. With a partial replacement, your window specialist will remove the trim around the window and replace or repair just the damaged portion. For a full replacement, your tech will need to remove the window, replace the frame, and then reinstall the window.

The primary parts of a house that need framing during construction are floors, exterior walls, interior walls, and the roof. The framing in these areas provides the skeleton for adding other materials over the top. With walls, for example, contractors can hang drywall over the interior walls and siding over the outside of the exterior walls. Proper framing ensures a sturdy house that is built to last.

There are a few options if you miss a stud. You can simply patch the hole with spackle, sand it down, repaint it, and then find the stud—essentially starting over. If you don’t want to do that, you can insert one of the more robust drywall anchor options and hang your item on that, but that will only work if the drywall is in excellent condition and the anchor is rated for the weight of the item you’re hanging on it. You may be able to cover the hole with the object itself once it’s mounted, but it’s still recommended to at least fill the hole to protect insulation and prevent vermin from entering.
