"Golden Key Drywall did an excellent job at my home for my two projects. They were small areas but they were extremely professional. They communicated with me during the process and are extremely knowledgeable and experienced. Archie and his brother Hector were excellent! I would hire them again to do any project. I highly recommend them for anybody who needs drywall projects completed."

"Precision Drywall sent a team of three sheetrock men who did a good job at the restoration of water damage to drywall. It then sent two painters who did a poor job. I complained and the company sent over an expert touch up and finishing man, who even worked on a Sunday. I have got a new leak and will probably call Precision again. During the whole process, the company was cordial and understanding."

Customers say: True professional

"Arrived on time. Took about 6 hours to replace a 10x10 cielling with bedding and texturing all the while looking like they were dressed to go to the superbowl. Did more than was asked, did not leave a mess and did an excellent job. All in all my best contractor visit ever. I recommend Rock Solid Desing for ANY drywall job! I would hire them again in a heart beat. Thanks Mr. Navarro."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Popular wall textures include orange peel, knockdown, spray sand, and smooth finishes. Orange peel and knockdown are particularly common choices for drywall as they are simple and cost-effective. Orange peel texture has a lightly bumpy surface resembling the skin of an orange, while knockdown (sometimes called knockout) looks like a stucco finish with flattened high spots. In contrast, popcorn texture has fallen out of fashion, partly due to its past association with asbestos and a shift toward more restrained interior design styles.

The tool you use to sand plaster will depend on the size of the project. If you’re just working on a small section of your wall to get rid of an uneven spot on the surface, hand-sanding might work. However, for larger projects, a drywall sander can make a huge difference when it comes to both time and elbow grease—and an orbital sander can help for detailed areas such as around ceiling fans.

With its breathability and flexibility, lime plaster is among the most durable of all plaster types. It's also fire-resistant and has a proven track record, as people have been using it for thousands of years.

However, all plaster types will last for many years with the right care and treatment. Proper preparation and installation will also help ensure your plaster walls look great for as long as possible.

Some textures are easier than others to DIY, but the short answer is yes, you can absolutely texture walls yourself. You’ll need certain materials, like a trowel or paint sprayer, but the most important things you’ll need are patience and time. DIYing wall texture can save money and be a fun, messy project, but homeowners need to know that adding texture to a wall isn’t a quick project.

If your home was built before the 1940s and was not remodeled in the past 50 or so years, you probably have plaster walls. Aside from assuming, there are some practical ways to tell if you have plaster walls, including the following: If you knock on the wall and it feels solid, not hollow, if you can’t insert a thumbtack easily, if there are cracks that look like spiderwebs, or if your home has curved, arched, or swirled walls, doorways, or window openings.

If you have an unfinished basement or attic, you could examine the backs of any finished walls to check, too.
