"I needed a garage ceiling repair. They were quick to contact me after I initially requested their service. The owner ( Ricky) was professional over the phone and was able to quote a price after I sent a picture of the damage. I agreed to hire them. They arrived on time and completed the work in a timely manner. Their work was good. Ricky is a professional and polite young man. I recommend his company and would use them again."

"MFZ Home Solutions LLC did an excellent job repairing my bathroom after water damage. Trino was professional, on time, and very easy to work with throughout the whole process. The drywall repair came out flawless, and the paint work matched perfectly—you can’t even tell there was damage before. Everything was done cleanly and efficiently, and the bathroom looks brand new again. I highly recommend MFZ Home Solutions LLC and Trino for any drywall or paint work."

"Mr. Tellez helped me to match my paint to find just the look I had been imagining but previously unable to secure, despite a dozen or more samples in varying portions of the room. Also I was very pleased with their careful prep work, going to extra trouble to protect my furniture. Tellez staff were very considerate and they exceeded my expectations and went out of their way by helping me with a light fixture (i tried to match- via paint-the fixture to the room). Tellez remodeling did an exceptional job and I would definitely hire them again. My 20 foot ceilings and walls look fantastic!"

"Santiago & his crew have done multiple projects for me around my home & always do a great job. Pictured is my formal dining room which he converted into a bedroom & secondly he expanded my pantry & built a linen closet. He did everything from demo, framing, sheetrock, mud, texture, paint, trim & installed doors. Heâ s also done a lot of drywall repairs for me. He does a good job with prep & cleanup.Iâ ve had quite a bit of work done around my house & Santiago is by far my favorite contractor Iâ ve hired. Heâ s always on time, professional, patient & kind. A genuinely good person."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

You can skim coat plaster, but it’s better to repair the plaster itself. A skim coat is a thin coat of drywall joint compound spread over the surface of a wall. The result is a flat finish that looks pleasing, but part of the appeal of plaster is its imperfections and aesthetic. Skim coating is best when limited to drywall applications.

There are several benefits to wet-sanding drywall, but the main perk is that it produces far less dust than dry-sanding. As a result, wet-sanding poses fewer health risks and makes less of a mess in your home. Plus, damp sponges are less abrasive than sandpaper, so there’s a smaller chance of scratching or damaging the drywall paper. Wet-sanding also creates a smoother finish than dry-sanding.

If your premixed drywall mud is dried out or has begun to set in the bucket, you may be able to revive it by adding warm water and stirring. However, the first and most important step is to scrape off any hard, dried bits of drywall that may have accumulated toward the top of the container and throw them away because they will not easily reconstitute back into the drywall mud mix.

The two most common drywall thicknesses for ceilings are 1/2-inch and 5/8-inch. For most standard residential applications, 1/2-inch drywall is sufficient and widely used. It provides adequate support and is lighter and easier to handle during installation compared to thicker sheets. However, 5/8-inch drywall is often used for specific cases where additional benefits are needed. It is heavier but provides superior sound dampening and fire resistance. You should consider using 5/8-inch drywall for ceilings in commercial buildings, between a garage and a living space, or above a finished basement to meet building codes or for enhanced soundproofing.

If your home was built before the 1940s and was not remodeled in the past 50 or so years, you probably have plaster walls. Aside from assuming, there are some practical ways to tell if you have plaster walls, including the following: If you knock on the wall and it feels solid, not hollow, if you can’t insert a thumbtack easily, if there are cracks that look like spiderwebs, or if your home has curved, arched, or swirled walls, doorways, or window openings.

If you have an unfinished basement or attic, you could examine the backs of any finished walls to check, too.
