"Mr. Tellez helped me to match my paint to find just the look I had been imagining but previously unable to secure, despite a dozen or more samples in varying portions of the room. Also I was very pleased with their careful prep work, going to extra trouble to protect my furniture. You may need to replace drywall because of smoke damage. If the drywall is covered in soot, you may be able to clean it, but it will require a lot of time and effort. If your home was built before the 1940s and was not remodeled in the past 50 or so years, you probably have plaster walls. If you have an unfinished basement or attic, you could examine the backs of any finished walls to check, too.

Drywall anchors won’t work on plaster. Instead, they will more than likely cause more damage and pull out the plaster. The best type of anchors to use on plaster walls are the ones that will bite into the surrounding area, such as molly bolts and toggle bolts. Masonry anchors with expanders on the sides also work for lighter pictures.

To hide drywall edges, you need to properly apply drywall tape and multiple layers of joint compound. These materials hide the seams between drywall sheets and fill the holes from drywall screws, leaving behind a smooth, flat finish to paint over. Apply joint compound smoothly, and finish the job by sanding the walls to make sure you fully hide drywall edges and other imperfections.
