Carpet beetles don’t seek shelter in mattresses like bed bugs do, but there still may be sources of food, like the fabric of your sheets and blankets, that attract carpet beetles. Because these pests munch on plant-based materials, you could still find one in your bed as it’s searching for food.

The most effective natural roach repellent is Borax with its key ingredient of boric acid and diatomaceous earth. But some homeowners may not feel like these are “natural” enough, especially since you can’t use Borax around curious pets or toddlers.

Like many animals, gophers are bothered by strong scents. Peppermint oil, eucalyptus oil,  and coffee grounds can be used as deterrents against these pests. Similarly, you can try planting lavender, rosemary, sage, geraniums, or pine trees, as these plants all have strong smells that can ward away gophers. While it may be less pleasant to work with, coyote urine scares gophers by tricking the pests into thinking your yard is a predator hot spot.

For a minor infestation, you can expect to clear up a German cockroach problem in about two weeks. That’s usually enough time to confirm that they don’t have additional hiding spots and aren’t continuing to encroach from an outside source. If you have a major infestation and use the services of a pest control company, it can take several weeks and multiple visits to fully clear your home, up to a couple of months.

Squirrels hate not having access to secure shelter or food sources. Your best line of defense is to make your property less attractive by removing access to these things.
