"Overall, went well. Had to wait longer than expected for deck to be done. Also, there was some miscommunication about who needed to paint our home due to the size of our home. Multiple crews came over before the right one showed up."

"Kenneth showed up early for the estimate. He was able to start the job quickly and finish as predicted. He even made excellent suggestions for paint color and other things. I even added a few Things on to the job which he completed with no hassle whatsoever. On top of this, he is extremely friendly and professional. I would hire him again in a heartbeat."

"I got three quotes for the paint job. Two were given over the phone: but Dennis Phillips of Progressive Painting cam over in person. In meeting him: I found him to be very professional and easy to work with. He made suggestions that made a better finished product. His quote was the lowest of the three and engaged him to do the job. It rained off and on for a week and we worked closely to make sure we had the best conditions for painting. He used top of the line equipment and his years of experience showed in his painting. I recommend Dennis Phillips for any painting job you may have. I am going to use Dennis Phillips on our house interior painting. Bruce Patchin"

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Always wait until the morning dew has dried before you stain your deck. The stain needs a fully dry surface to sink into.

The general consensus is that two coats of stain are required and since the cedar is siding, a third coat of sealant is always a good idea. This helps protect the wood and stain, so you won’t need to resand and restain for at least a decade. Each stain after the first will darken the wood, so be aware of that when choosing a colored stain.

Here's the deal with leaving used rags covered in oil-based stain lying around in a pile: Depending on the conditions, these rags can take just an hour or up to a few days to combust. The source of ignition is caused by trapped heat that can be compounded if the rags are near a heat source.

An exterior paint job typically lasts between 5 and 10 years, though this can range from 3 to 17 years depending on several factors. The longevity is influenced by the quality of the paint and primer, the quality of the application, the local climate, and the type of surface being painted. For example, paint on wood siding may need to be redone every 3 to 7 years, while painted brick can last up to 17 years. Aluminum siding often needs repainting every 5 years.

Stains penetrate wood best when it's cool and dry, so you want to avoid moisture. If the wood is wet upon application, or if it rains before the stain dries, the water will soak into the wood and displace the staining solution. This leads to a flaky and blotchy look, which is the opposite of a sumptuous even coat. Once the stain has fully cured, after about 3 days, rain shouldn’t cause you any problems.
