"Due to foundation settling we had lots of cracks in the dry wall. We had them come in patch and paint, and touch up where necessary. 5 rooms total plus the garage. Their color matching was practically perfect. There were some hiccups and we did have to have the crew back out to get everything to 100%, or at least to an acceptable level. But they were eager to get everything to a state I was happy with and that's exactly what I wanted. I'm quite happy with the final result."

"We were selling our house and the entire interior needed a paint refresh as it had been over 5 years since it was done. We also had some small wall repairs that needed done and he did a fabulous job in completing all of the work in the time frame we needed. After that work was done we needed an “emergency” repair job in laundry room/living room and we knew we could count on him to get the job done and done correctly, knowing the next owner would not have to worry about out any issues. He was a pleasure to work with and when we need help in the future we will definitely reach out to him. Definitely would refer him."

"The process was pretty seamless and straightforward. The only issue was that the only person we could verbally communicate with was the site leader who did not stay onsite. The painters themselves did not speak English and communicating as a mime was not very efficient....Overall the job was done and done well. Would still consider them again."

"We are so happy with KMG restoration! We had the project of painting a bedroom and repairing some drywall holes, due to too many children! Lol. They were very professional and started the same day. They finished quickly but totally paid attention to detail. I have painted every room in my house and I’m a horrible painter. After seeing a professionals work, I see how horrible I really am! Lol. The paint is on so smooth and uniform throughout, and I can’t tell at all where any damage used to be. We’ll definitely use them again! Thank you so much! So quick and easy."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Limewash and whitewash are two techniques used to give brick a light, matte finish, but they differ in composition, application, and permanence. The best choice depends on your aesthetic goals and the specific surface.

Composition

  • Limewash: A natural and environmentally friendly option made from limestone, water, and sometimes pigments. It is breathable and soaks into porous surfaces like brick.

  • Whitewash: Traditionally made from lime, water, chalk, and binders, but a similar look can be achieved with watered-down white paint. It is paint-based and sits on top of the surface.

Appearance and Finish

  • Limewash: Provides a natural, textured appearance that allows the brick's character to show through. It offers a more traditional finish.

  • Whitewash: Creates a softer, more opaque finish, often used for a rustic or shabby-chic style.

Application and Permanence

  • Limewash: Is semi-permanent and can be removed, making it a good choice if you might want to change the look in the future. It requires more skill to apply and cannot be used on previously painted brick.

  • Whitewash: Is a more permanent solution. It is more forgiving to apply and can be used on painted brick. However, because it sits on the surface, it can trap moisture.

Ultimately, if you want a breathable, natural, and reversible finish for unpainted brick, limewash is a great option. If you need a more permanent, opaque coating that can be applied over painted surfaces, whitewash is the better choice. Whitewashing may also be more economical, costing approximately $1.40 to $4.20 per square foot.

Always sand a deck before repainting so the wood is smooth and ready for paint. While you do not need to fully remove paint before repainting, sanding helps remove any areas with weather and sun damage. Sanding also helps remove chipped or flaking paint and opens the wood pores to improve paint adhesion.

DIY staining or painting is manageable with proper preparation, including safety measures, necessary tools, and adherence to safe weather conditions for application.

Here's the deal with leaving used rags covered in oil-based stain lying around in a pile: Depending on the conditions, these rags can take just an hour or up to a few days to combust. The source of ignition is caused by trapped heat that can be compounded if the rags are near a heat source.

Staining a deck with a rag is typically a better option than using a brush, as it helps the stain penetrate deeper into the wood. However, both brushes and rags are best reserved for detailed work because using these tools on an entire deck can require tediously crawling around on your hands and knees. A pad applicator, sprayer, or roller are preferred alternatives to applying stain over the majority of a deck. Use a rag for railings and other detailed work, and let the wood soak up as much of the stain as possible before wiping away drips or pools.
