"For 23 years, our three boys grew up sharing a bathroom. After all this time, the bathroom desperately needed renovation. JJ Brewer & Associates transformed a sow's ear into a silk purse. Our project included replacing the bathtub area with a full walk-in tiled shower, retiling the floor, removing a wall and replacing much of the existing wall, repainting, and replacing the cabinets and fixtures. In all, the project took about 2 months. They did a fantastic job. I would definitely hire them again for my next project. They were courteous and professional. We discussed everything, and they provided me with options that I had not thought of. If you are looking for a company for your next renovation project, I can highly recommend JJ Brewer & Associates."

We like good architecture. We only wish there were more of it. That's why our firm exists.\nSince 1986 Dan Brewer, Lee Ingram and Anthony Fuller have built a reputation for giving clients more than they expect. As you browse through our site we hope you'll come to agree with us that architecture isn't about styles, cool drawings (though we've got a few) or awards (though we've won our share). It's about listening. About thoughtful, inspiring solutions to unique circumstances. About expressing the difference we find in every client we work for. \n\nDon't look for too many patterns in our work - you won't find them. We enjoy variety and diversity in the types of projects we do, and believe these strengthen our practice. We design churches, libraries, health care facilities, and senior care projects. We're architects for housing, for museums, for the preservation of historic structures.\n\nWe like good architecture. And we think we've got the right people to do it. \n

I design homes for new construction, and it is always a pleasure to work with clients creating their dream home. I have built and remodeled many homes and am very familiar with codes and structural needs. I try to make the process simple and fun and will be glad to offer helpful insights during the process. Thank you, Lanette

"After getting 1 horrible quote, and 2 other really high quotes, finally my friend, also a previous client of Pride Painting, recommended them to us. I reached out to the owner on a Sunday morning, asking if he was available last minute, an hour from the call. He agreed and showed up on time. When shaking hands and engaging in small talk, he seemed a little "cocky," or bold with confidence, and I thought I was going to experience a repeat of previous quotes. As I walked him through the interior and walked around the exterior, my comfort/confidence grew a little more and more, because he was actively listening, giving feedback and personal ideas/input, which I hadn't previously considered, and he even had a notebook to write down personally requested specifics that were most significant to my wife and I. My initial first impression quickly turned around. By the next morning, we hired him, after receiving an extremely thorough estimate that included absolutely every dollar, even daily man hours/labor. After 3 weeks, all the work was accomplished!! My family and I were so excited and happy, that not only Pride Painting understood our vision, but they had exceeded our expectations! Another major plus, especially after spending much time hunting for and getting quotes from professionals, the business owner brought in the plumber and electrician needed within the process!! I was so relieved, this was so helpful!! Throughout the entire process, I was blown away at the owners hands on approach, performing the majority of the work himself, but one of his employees helped with all of the painting, and did a wonderful job as well. The owner designed and created both the "built in" for storage/shelving in the office and the new, amazing large back patio! It was an absolute pleasure working with Pride Painting, and if necessary in the future, this is the only company I'll reach out to. Community, we highly recommend Pride Painting!!!!"

FAQs for architectural service projects in Ridgeside, TN

While you might think that architects only draw blueprints for buildings, they are much more involved in the overall construction process than you might realize. While they aren’t the ones swinging the hammers, architects do the following:

  • Communicate with the homeowner on the project request, including assistance when exact plans aren’t known

  • Develop computer-aided models and blueprints of the requested design

  • Ensure that the design incorporates form, function, and safety features

  • Provide the contractor with the agreed-upon design

  • Supervise the general contractor and any subcontractors throughout the project

  • Communicate any needed changes to the project with the homeowner and draw new plans accordingly

Before settling on and hiring an architect, it’s beneficial to you as a homeowner to ask some questions to familiarize yourself with their work. After all, you wouldn’t want to spend time and resources on a professional that doesn’t specialize in exactly what you want in a house. Some questions to ask your architect include:

  • How do you charge for services? Is it on an hourly basis, based on square footage, or based on project size?

  • How do we work together to stay on budget for this project?

  • Do you anticipate any future challenges with this project? How are these communicated?

  • What is your project management style? If you are not handling the day-to-day details, who is my point of contact?

  • Can I see previous similar projects that you’ve completed?

  • Do you have any specialty experience, like working on historic homes or using sustainable building materials?

The average cost to hire an architect for your home project ranges between $2,200 and $10,500. However, depending on location and project type, you might end up paying as little as $600 or as much as $45,000 or more. For example, the average cost of hiring an architect in North Carolina is between $1,800 and $2,000, but in California, that price tag jumps to $3,600 to $15,200

The price you pay for your architect also depends on their experience level. For example, a principal architect, the firm's owner, typically charges $150 to $250 per hour. However, an intern architect with three to five years of experience usually only charges $45 per hour.

After you’ve spoken with your contractor and agreed on a project, they’ll draw up blueprints, or plans, that the construction crew will use. The blueprint process can take between four and six months to complete. While this can seem like a long time, remember that the architect must communicate with your municipality to determine codes, communicate with you as the homeowner with any changes or adjustments, and coordinate with the construction crew.

If you simply remodel your home or add an addition, the time to draw up the plans will be shorter since fewer permits and surveys are required. Even still, it’s best to plan for a few months for the architect to complete this part of the project.

Knowing if you need an architect for your project can be tricky, especially if you've never worked with one before. In general, small remodeling projects like replacing fixtures typically don't require the expertise of an architect. However, larger projects, like moving walls or adding an addition to your home, should include an architect to ensure the project is structurally sound.
