Customers say: Quick response

"Handy Chucks did our kitchen re-do, replacing all cabinets along with the flooring on the 1st & 2nd floor and did a GREAT job. Not only did they show up to start when they said they would, they arrived on time on each and every work day. Workers Russ & David did an excellent job of keeping us updated on everything they were doing as the job progressed, and even made suggestions on some extras that were needed (actually needed, not an up-sell). At the end of the day, EVERYTHING was cleaned up before they left for the day. Everyone at Handy Chucks was very personable and easy to talk to. They responded to any questions and/or concerns we had with easy to understand explanations. I would trust Handy Chucks with any other home remodeling jobs we may have in the future, big or small. In fact, wait on their bid on a second small job I need done."

"I have used Scruffy City for multiple home improvement projects and they have been phenomenal. They were very knowledgeable about the work that needed to be performed and were very fair with their quoting. Once I booked with them, they started and finished the jobs on time, walked me through the process and educated me on what they were doing / what needed to be done. They were transparent and honest, and everything was done with the highest quality. On top of their superior work, the people are truly the best. They almost feel like family at this point and I won’t work with anyone else. I recommend them to everyone!"

Barndominium Builders questions, answered by experts

The term “cottage” is subjective, so there’s no rigid definition, but it generally refers to a small home with simple and purposeful architecture that embraces nature and focuses on charm over everything else. Cottages are typically 1 or 1 1/2-stories tall, usually with gabled roofs, and are built out of natural materials that help make the structure a part of the surrounding nature rather than something that stands out from it. A big part of what makes a cottage a cottage is the decor, which includes natural materials from the nearby area.

The best lumber for building will be the strongest and most eco-friendly wood your budget allows. That being said, Douglas fir, pine, oak, and maple are all common building materials. Contractors will use a strong, inexpensive wood to frame a house or other structure and finer woods like mahogany for detail work.

There's no simple answer to which is less costly: wood or metal-framed homes. In most cases, metal building components cost more than wooden ones, while entire metal buildings cost less than wooden versions. However, regardless of the exterior framing or structure, each must meet similar building codes. This means that the costs are about the same, even considering that wood will require more maintenance than metal over time.

Whether you buy a prefabricated shed or build one depends on why you need it and where you stay. For instance, if a simple garden shed is what you’re after, it’ll be less expensive to buy one already built. But if you want a shed with windows, plumbing, and electric work, a custom-built unit might be more suited to your needs.

The time it takes to build a shed heavily depends on the type of shed you buy. A prefab shed can be built in 4 to 8 hours, while a custom shed will be built off-site over the span of 2 to 5 days. It then takes a few hours, depending on the location, to move the finished shed to its final location.
