"Blackburn Construction was great to work with. My neighbor and I had a difficult riverbank repair on a steep slope along the Cumberland River after a previous contractor left a mess (putting it lightly). Trentt, the owner, called me back first thing in the morning and came out the very next day—despite pouring rain—to walk the site and provided a fair quote. He and his crew were professional, friendly, and did an excellent job rebuilding both riverbanks, stacking the stone with care so it looks great as well as secure. The work was so well done that I asked them to add a retaining wall and gutter drainage for extra protection. They showed up on time and finished before the river level rose. Highly recommend them!"

"This company is very thorough. They addressed all concerns and added trees and limbs I was worried about once the job was started. They did not mind the added extra work. The owner is very communicative about the job and process. He was very reasonable in price. The cleanup was phenomenal. I would definitely recommend this company."

"Great! 5 out of 5. Jacob was prompt, professional, knowledgeable, and easy to talk with when we discussed the work to be done. On the work day, he frequently asked if I was ok with what and how they were doing. The result exceeded my expectations. Quality of work and customer service I received were exceptional."

"It went great. Kevin is an 'owner operator' so I don't have to deal with a guy disconnected from the work coming it to check in once in a blue moon. He does stuff the right way. He communicates amazingly, we had some small 'additions' to the project that were fairly priced and didn't go much beyond the original quote (few hundred bucks on a 10k+ job). Also, these additions were caused by poor workmanship of my hardscapes company I had earlier, Kevin's team rebuilt part of their wall, re-supported the coping in one corner, and added a low retaining wall to the edge of the patio to keep the pavers from falling out into the yard (yes, previous company just had pavers end to grass with a plastic mulch bed edge holding in the patio). I was referred to Kevin through a neighbor and he has also completed a fairly large job at my neighbors house since (similar work to mine)."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

The rules for trenching and excavation include setting up and following safety protocols, learning how to use tools and machines properly, and ensuring there is a safe exit for all workers. Keep heavy equipment and materials away from the edge of the hole or trench. Call the 811 dig line before starting any excavation or trenching project to ensure you don’t hit any electrical or gas lines.

The best method for digging a trench depends on the scope of the project. For a short, shallow trench (less than 2 feet deep) in light, soft soil, digging by hand may be sufficient. However, digging by hand is labor-intensive, so consider the effort required. A machine trencher is the better option for longer trenches (over 100 feet), deeper ones, or when dealing with difficult soil conditions, such as rocky or hard ground, or obstructions like tree roots. A machine can save significant time and energy in these situations.

No, fire blight does not survive free in the soil but instead is carried through insects, animals, rain, or wind during the spring. Keep in mind that it can also spread on tools, which is why you should always disinfect them in between cuts.

Downspouts should be buried at least 5 to 10 feet away from your foundation. This can vary depending on your local building codes, soil type, and property slope. The main goal is to ensure water is directed away from your foundation.

If you have a broken sprinkler pipe underground, there will be some signs you can easily spot to locate it and take action. These include leaks, water spouts, flooding, consistently damp areas on your lawn, low water pressure, and grass around the sprinkler head that’s taller and darker than anywhere else in the yard.

If there are no obvious signs of a broken pipe, you can use tools such as water leak mics, leak noise loggers, audio devices that record leaks, and acoustic testing links.

Broken pipes can lead to uneven watering, plant damage, and higher utility bills. The longer you wait to fix them the more the repair cost may be.
