"I recently asked for some estimates for painting our entire home exterior, having our three sets of stairs rebuilt, fixing several of our windows, and repairing several door jams. After reviewing the estimates in detail, I decided to go with Shane Franich of GreenFrog LLC. He was always prompt and courteous, and answered all my calls and messages on a timely basis. His estimate was very reasonable for the work being provided, and along with Marco of Prime Construction, did an excellent job on the painting and repair of our home. "I have a contract with them to insulate my house. They insulated the walls, I paid them for that ($2000.00). I gave them $1200.00 for material to do the attic and would pay them $800.00 when the job was done. After the drywall was and electrical was installed, I called them, they did not call be back. I called them and left text messages for about two weeks. After Home Advisor called them, they said that they would do the job. We made appointments after appointments, to this date they have not showed up and Donny or Cody will not answer my calls. Now, I will need to find someone else to clean up their mess and finish the job. I do not think their warrantee is any good..."

While there are many different kinds of insulation, spray foam, blown-in, foam board, and batt and roll are the four types you’re most likely to see. That doesn’t mean they’re alike, though. Each one varies drastically in terms of cost, materials used, and how they’re installed—not to mention, how well they limit heat transfer.

Exposed ductwork can sweat just like ductwork placed behind walls, sometimes even more so. Ductwork sweats—like a cold drink on a hot day—because of a temperature imbalance between the air in the duct and the air in the room. In a crawl space or wall, this temperature can equalize faster due to the small space but in lofts and open rooms, that wouldn’t happen as quickly. Many people insulate their ducts for this reason.

As you look for the right soundproofing drywall for you, you’ll likely come across the Sound Transmission Class (STC) rating. This rating measures a building material’s ability to absorb sound. The higher the number, the better the material absorbs rather than reflects sound, reducing noise transmission. The STC rating for drywall doesn’t mean it’s for the panel itself—it refers to the STC rating for the entire wall system, including the soundproofing drywall.

When temperatures are too cold, it can keep ice from melting, and products like ice melt and rock salt are ineffective. Water turns to ice in temperatures below 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Ice melts on its own when temperatures reach above 32 degrees Fahrenheit. 

Ice melt loses effectiveness in temperatures below -25 degrees Fahrenheit, and rock salt works in temperatures 5 degrees Fahrenheit and warmer.

Monolithic slabs don’t require insulation, but many homeowners choose to have their contractors install insulation under the slab during construction. This can help improve home efficiency even more and keep indoor temperatures more stable. Slab foundations are more energy-efficient than uninsulated crawl spaces and basements, and insulated slab foundations are more energy-efficient than insulated crawl spaces and basements.
