Generally speaking, adding concrete landscaping features will cause your property taxes to increase. That’s because projects that involve a permanent concrete foundation require permits and permanently improve the land. Since taxes are based on improvements, your taxes will go up. Avoid materials like ceramic and porcelain, as they are known to be quite slippery. Wood and composite flooring can be slippery if untreated, so make sure to stain or finish these materials.

While all ice melts that contain chemicals can damage concrete, some are more concrete-safe than others. Magnesium chloride and potassium chloride are both salts that can melt ice without causing corrosion. Calcium chloride also causes minimal corrosion, making it another popular choice.
