"Keith was fantastic with communication. This company is honest and moreso their people show how great of a culture that they must have internally. I interviewed a few companies to fully seal my crawlspace but felt like they "just wanted a sale". Not AFS. Keith was excited to "teach" me about what they could do AFTER he asked me to tell him my concerns. He was not trying to SALE me on anything yet wanted to solve my problems. That is a true "salesman". He cared. The company was in and out in 1 FULL DAY!! They worked hard and moreso very cleanly. I did not have any issues with clutter or trash once they left. They even offered to help me connect my wifi back that got accidentally messed up but ATT was able to repair it for free. Regardless, offering to help me after they accidentally knocked it loose was so kind. They really show how much they care for their customers and inadvertently make you feel like family. Thanks Keith and the workers who treated my home like theirs. It means everything to my family to know that we are now protected against Mold and Water damage. Here is one more PLUS: our floors are so much more warm because we completed the "HVAC envelop" by getting the crawlspace sealed."

Windows questions, answered by experts

The maximum protruding distance allowed for a bay window is determined by its flank angles. 30-degree flanks can extend about 13 to 14 inches. If the angle is 45 degrees or larger, then the bay window can stick out about 19 inches. If the window extends too far out, it would cause structural instability and safety concerns.

When you need new windows depends on a variety of factors, including the age of your windows, the age of your home, and the climate you live in. If you’re dealing with budget constraints, you don’t need to replace all your windows simultaneously.

When buying new windows, you should consider energy efficiency, safety, and aesthetics to choose the right window for you.

Basements are generally required to have windows for your safety. At a minimum, windows should provide an egress in the event of a fire. But basement windows do more than offer a way out; basement windows also offer natural light and ventilation in an area of your home that is otherwise dark and musty.

Most modern egress windows installed in basements open outward into a window well, although some older homes have in-swing windows. Egress windows, like casement windows used in other parts of the home, such as bedrooms and bathrooms, may open inward, and these windows are often larger than outward-opening windows.

In addition to window well covers or bars, you can take a few more steps to boost basement window security. Try motion-activated lighting; it scares off potential intruders by lighting up when someone gets too close. Strengthening your window glass with impact-resistant security film can also deter forced entry. A dependable home security system with window sensors and cameras offers real-time monitoring and alerts for added protection. Lastly, fostering good relationships with neighbors can establish a supportive community watch network, enhancing your home's safety.
