"The owner Derrick is articulate and doesn't try to hard-sell you. I found him to be forthcoming in discussing the pros and cons of tankless versus tank-style water heaters. I ended up buying a new tank water heater and his guys installed it professionally. They also replaced my worn-out pressure regulator valve for a fair price in a very cramped crawl space. They did such good work that I went ahead and let them install a new kitchen faucet that I had planned to replace myself. It turned out to be complicated so I'm glad I let them do the work and feel like the price I paid was more than fair. I now consider Riverside Plumbing to be my new plumber."

"Minor Repairs to 3 Toilets: The plumbing staff are polite and professional. That is where the good stops with Keefe Plumbing. My bill was $356.80. I had cash, but the plumbers did not have change. I offered them $300 cash and for them to bill me for $56.80. They would not bill me. She said I could pay by credit card, but the plumbing staff was able to to that either. I ended up having to drive 30 miles one way to take them my $356.80 payment. While I can attest to the complete professionalism of the 2 plumbers that completed my repairs, I will absolutely never hire Keefe Plumbing again because of the poor customer service of the office staff."

"Mel uses quality people to do the job - from those that did the construction to the painter who was able to match the colors both on the inside and outside perfectly with what was already there.  One would not even know that the addition was not part of the original design.  My husband was actually at home throughout the process and was so impressed with the people as well as their work.  The electrician made some suggestions that we would never have thought of but were so glad he suggested them.  One example was having a light for our patio that would be controlled from our new bathroom. That light has enabled us to use our outdoor facilities at night.  One great result from all of this is that we now have the names and phone numbers for a quality electrician; a quality plumber; a quality heating and air person; a quality painter; a quality roofer, etc.  We won't even have to come to Angie's List for these because we know from experience their work and work ethics.  So Mel is not only a pleasure to work with throughout the process but he knows the best people to do the job.

Affordable Plumbers questions, answered by experts

No, you can’t drain your sump pump into your home’s sewer system. In fact, it’s against the law in many places because dumping extra water into a municipal water system can disrupt or overwhelm the treatment process. And for similar reasons, you shouldn’t discharge a sump pump into your septic system, either.

Yes. Sewer cameras are invaluable tools that can help pros safely diagnose problems with your septic system. Without a camera to look into your system, septic issue diagnoses would be a combination of guessing and past experience. However, a camera can help confirm ideas that your pro may already have about what’s wrong.

In most cases, it’s better to repair a toilet than to replace it. Fixing issues like low water levels, running water, and flushing problems is less expensive than buying a new unit. Start thinking about replacement if the toilet is cracked, using excessive amounts of water, or is over 15 years old. Newer models are more water-efficient and clog less often than older models.

It is safe to flush the toilet even if the pipes are frozen, and this may even help clear out the pipes. But if the supply line is frozen, the toilet won’t refill itself until it’s thawed out. You can still flush by pouring water into the tank to refill it.

On average, it takes four to eight hours to install a pedestal sink. However, several factors will influence how much time it takes to install a pedestal sink, including:

  • A replacement will take longer to put in than a new install

  • The size and weight of the pedestal sink—a pro may need an apprentice for help

  • It will take longer to change the sink type vs. replacing the pedestal with a duplicate
