Constantly having to request that work be redone so that it didn't appear to be done by a toddler. He took the last payment we gave him and has refused to answer phone calls or text. We have a damaged window on the front of our house that we were assured was purchased and would be replaced.......nest week, over and over again. Do not hire Brandon Sweeney, unless you want to lose your money."

Garage door sensors work by using infrared beams to detect objects in the door’s path. One sensor sends a beam while the other receives it. When the beam is broken—say, by your car or anything else—the sensors signal the door to stop or reverse. It’s all about safety and making sure nothing gets trapped under the door. If they’re misaligned, the beam doesn’t connect, and the garage door might stay open or close regardless of obstructions.

It depends on a lot of factors, but generally speaking, added living space is more desirable to most buyers, which means an extra room will be more valuable than a traditional garage. The utility of the new space will determine how much ROI you’ll see. An additional bedroom will generally be more valuable than a living room or family room, and converting your garage to a bedroom with a bathroom will likely add the most value.

You don’t need a garage door opener unless you need or desire the convenience they offer. While you may be able to open some garage doors manually, having a garage door opener makes life a lot easier. There is an exception, though—a motorized opener is an absolute must if you have a two-car garage (or larger), as the door will be too heavy for the average person to lift on their own.

The smallest size a standard 2-car garage can be is 20 feet by 20 feet, so at these dimensions, you could reasonably expect to fit two cars inside. However, it’s going to be a tight fit, especially if you have larger SUVs or pickup trucks. For smaller cars, 20 x 20 should be plenty for parking and some space to maneuver around the cars. A larger garage size would be better to ensure you have room to open the doors and transport groceries or other items around the cars.

If push comes to shove, and you need to manually open your garage door, then you should be able to do so. To manually open your garage door, first, make sure that the door is in the down position. You’ll need to unlock your garage door opener’s emergency release mechanism, which is typically a red robe that you can find on the carriage. Once you’ve pulled the cord, you can manually lower the door.
