"The contractor that was supposed to fix my fence ghosted me after promising to finish the job for two weeks. I contacted Ram Fence Company, and they came out the same day to measure and give me a quote. I was happy with the quote, and they came out the following day to complete the job. So far, I am very satisfied with my fence and there are no obvious problems with it."

"On time for Thursday appointment. Explained what needed to be done to repair and replace as needed in order to accomplish a plan that worked for me. Work began Friday morning, on time. My fence was damaged previously by tornado damage, trees crushed fence to the ground in some areas and entire area was grown up with shrubs ,weeds , trees , and damaged top rails caused by my horse reaching over the fence . They removed damaged fencing and taller fence installed to keep my horse from pushing fence down. They repaired my large gates and replaced some top rails on fence around my home. They worked with me by making repairs when possible. They also cleared some brush from around my fence and kept me informed on everything they did. Knowledgeable, friendly, and great work. Fair price."

"We hired Southland Structures to build a fence around our backyard, and the experience was outstanding from start to finish. James was incredibly helpful throughout the entire process, offering several options that suited our needs and budget. He and his crew were professional, attentive, and truly committed to making sure the final result matched our vision. They asked detailed questions, listened closely, and delivered exactly what we were hoping for—if not more. The fence turned out even better than we imagined. To top it off, they started the project well ahead of schedule and completed the entire build in just two days. We couldn’t be happier with the results and highly recommend James, his team, and Southland Structures for any project. They’ll be our first call for any future building needs."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

The longevity of fencing in Columbia depends on choosing weather-resistant materials suited for the local climate, such as pressure-treated wood or coated metal. Proper installation is key—posts should be set deep enough to handle rocky or clay soils, and drainage must be managed to prevent rot. Using UV-protected finishes and rust-resistant hardware helps your fence withstand sun, storms, and seasonal changes for years.

Helpful?

In Columbia, homeowners often choose between wood’s traditional charm and the durability of vinyl or metal, especially given the region’s humidity and weather shifts. Deciding on fence height can impact both privacy and airflow during hot summers. You may also need to balance following the natural slope of your yard with a level fence line, all while ensuring compliance with local zoning or neighborhood design trends.

Helpful?

Before requesting fencing services in Columbia, gather your property survey to confirm boundaries, and walk the perimeter to identify any existing markers or encroachments. Review HOA guidelines or deed restrictions for fence style and height limits. Note any mature trees, sloped areas, or drainage swales that could affect installation. Take clear photos of your yard layout and discuss boundary expectations with neighbors to avoid future disputes.

Helpful?

After your fencing project in Columbia, keep copies of your permit, final inspection approval, and any material warranties. Save before-and-after photos for insurance purposes, as well as any written agreements with neighbors about shared boundaries. Maintain a list of materials used and a recommended maintenance schedule tailored to Columbia’s climate. These records help with future repairs, property sales, and maintaining positive neighbor relations.

Helpful?

Cosmetic fencing in Columbia often focuses on matching the area’s Southern architecture, enhancing curb appeal, and selecting colors that blend with local landscapes. For functional needs like security or pet containment, fences must be sturdy enough for severe storms and designed to handle the area’s drainage patterns. Your goals—appearance or function—will directly influence material selection, fence height, and installation techniques.
