Small jobs welcome

"Gene did excellent work. He did a variety of jobs for us: Trim, doors, interior walls, and wallpaper removal. He gives great attention to detail and cares about his work. He is an honest and friendly guy, and he is a pleasure to work with. We found his pricing to be very reasonable, also. We definitely recommend him!"

"I am beyond impressed and pleased with Hood's Handyman Service.  Daniel, his staff, and other workers were highly professional, reliable, friendly, punctual, and skilled in their respective crafts.  I used the service for my parent's home, which originally had a water stain in the master bedroom.  Daniel quickly diagnosed the problem, which was an HVAC issue in the attic.  He gave us a great estimate for the complete HVAC installation - and removal of the old system.  This included relocating the new gas furnace out of the attic, and into an appropriate space.  Additionally, repairs to the ceiling, drywall, and painting - as well as minor electrical work, were included in this estimate.  The final invoice was in line with the estimate to the penny - this is obviously a high integrity company, with ambition and a drive to do things the right way.  My parents are so happy with the results, too.  Other estimates for the same type of HVAC installation was hundreds of dollars higher, and did not include the additional work that Hood's Handyman Service performed to the highest standard.
In summary, I definitely intend to use and highly recommend Hood's Handyman Service for any projects in my own home, friends' homes, or other relatives' homes, too!  The HVAC installation was seamless and ALL of the workers were so friendly and highly skilled.  I have no hesitation in recommended this company for larger jobs, and small ones too.  Daniel and his crew are always responsive and clear in their approach to getting the job done, correctly, professionally, and to the customer's satisfaction.  Awesome job guys!"

"This was our second major project with Shawn. He did our kitchen remodel a couple years ago, and we were so pleased that we contracted him again. We wanted him to do the entire bathroom addition project, but he doesn't do the structural work (foundation, roof, etc.) We wanted him so badly that we spent several months looking for another contractor that would agree to let someone else do the finish work. We went through several contractors until we finally found someone. We had to agree to be responsible for the building permit.
Shawn and his crew installed all the bathroom tile, including floor tile with floor heating, a curb-less glassed-in shower, and one full tiled wall. They installed a jetted tub, an 8 foot, two-sink vanity with mirrored medicine cabinets, and a 3-foot tall cabinet. All the finish plumbing, lighting, wood trim, and painting. The bedroom remodel job included installing new doors and trim, painting, new carpet, and un-popcorn of ceilings.
Shawn is very good at suggesting ideas that make your project even better than you had planned. Details that you'd never think of, but details that really improve your project.
Another excellent job by Shawn and his crew.

"Henry and his team arrived on time and did a great job preparing both the staircase and the decks for painting: he power washed everything and scraped off old flaky paint where needed. The next couple days he put two coats of paint on everything and put the lighting systems back, which had to be removed for the painting job. All in all great job and I recommend Henry to anyone who needs help with painting, either indoors or outdoors."

"Keron was awesome! He is very professional and the price he gives you never changes no matter what he decides to add. He went above and beyond and painted my whole house outside. I’m so happy our home looks like a brand new house. He is a perfectionist and his standards are far beyond what I expected. He showed up everyday on time and stayed all day. I would recommend him to anyone wanting the job done right. I have found a new favorite handyman and made a friend. I’m making my list for when I call him again. 5 stars for sure!"

Wallpaper Removal questions, answered by experts

Stubborn adhesives, multiple layers, and drywall damage can complicate removal.

If you can already see the texture of the existing wallpaper through the layer of paint, then the texture could also come through the new layer of wallpaper. If that’s the aesthetic you want, then proceed. But if you want a smoother surface, you should either strip off the existing paint and wallpaper or hang a layer of liner paper before proceeding.

You may end up with extra wallpaper once your project is finished. Hang on to that wallpaper, as you may need to use it to patch up areas that get damaged later on. If you have a lot of excess wallpaper, try getting creative with it. You can use it to line the inside of a cabinet or drawers, for example.

Prime and repaint walls after removal to ensure a clean, finished surface.

While it is possible to paint over wallpaper, it is generally better to remove it first to guarantee a smooth, professional finish. Painting over wallpaper can save time, but it may lead to issues if not done correctly.

You can paint over existing wallpaper if it is in excellent condition: smooth, non-textured, clean, and firmly adhered to the wall. Ensure there are no bumps, tears, or peeling areas, and that all corners and seams are securely glued down. You might also consider painting over wallpaper if removing it would damage the underlying wall. Additionally, some wallpapers are specifically designed to be paintable, which can add texture to a room.

However, there are risks. If the wallpaper is textured, damaged, or peeling, these imperfections will show through the new paint. The moisture from the paint can also loosen the wallpaper's adhesive, causing it to bubble and potentially damage the wall. To mitigate these issues, clean the surface thoroughly and use an oil-based primer to help the paint adhere and prevent the old adhesive from bleeding through.
