"Mr. Scott Ingersoll fixed multiple areas where we had broken drywall panels in the ceiling and other instances of stress cracks. He communicated well before and during the work, quoted accurately, and worked very fast. I would recommend Mr. Ingersoll to anyone looking for drywall work. He also has all of his own materials including a ladder, plastic sheeting, drywall panels & mud. My husband is interested in DIY so Scott also showed him some tips & tricks for working with drywall. He also accepted Venmo payment from us."

"I used Rhone Construction for a fairly large drywall job and couldn't have been more pleased with the price and quality of work. Not only did they arrive on time and complete the job according to schedule, but they communicated well and left a clean jobsite. I totally trust Rhone to do a great job at a fair price, and will be using them again soon!"

"I am so happy with the Handyman work that Mr. Milner did for me. He was able to get to me rather quickly. His work is exceptional. He will be coming back to do some other projects around my house. He is experienced in several different areas. He cleaned my gutters and replaced the boots for the ventilation. My gutters are completely clean and draining now. He even cleaned up after he was finished. I have been unfortunate in the past with people who have left me with such a mess, this won’t happen with Mr. Milner. You will not be disappointed when hiring him for any job around your house. I will be recommending him to all of my friends and neighbors."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

The best tool for skim coating drywall is a skim coating blade, which can smooth out joint compound in wide stretches. While you could use a smaller drywall knife for skim coating, the smaller size means it’ll take longer to smooth out each section. Instead, consider investing in a skim coating blade for the quickest application.

Drywall mudding can be done in one day if the project is small and the desired effect isn’t too complex. If you need multiple layers of mud, one day may not be realistic. But a single room that requires little more than joint compound on the seams and screws can be done in a day or two.

The time it takes for thinset to dry is determined by your room’s ambient temperature and humidity levels. Assuming the average humidity level is around 40% with an average temperature of 70 degrees Fahrenheit, thinset can dry within 48 hours. Lower temperatures and higher humidity can extend the curing process beyond 72 hours, while high heat and zero humidity can shorten the curing process. However, thinset can crack if it dries too fast.

Some painters will repair minor drywall damage. For repair work of any kind, it’s a good idea to hire the professional required for the job. Many painters will have the materials on hand and can add them to the total cost. While you may save some money, there is a chance the work will be subpar compared to a professional who specializes in drywall.

Whether to repair or replace water-damaged plaster depends on the scale of the damage. For small, limited areas, you can often perform a repair yourself. If you choose to paint over small patches, ensure the surface is completely dry and apply a coat of antifungal primer first to prevent mold growth. However, simply painting or plastering over the damage is only a temporary solution that doesn't address the core problem. For more extensive or long-term damage, the plaster may be compromised, and there is a risk of mold. In these cases, it is recommended to remove the damaged section of plasterboard and replace it. You may consider hiring a professional for the repair, and it's worth noting that water damage is often covered by home insurance.
