"Angelâ s Tree Service did a wonderful job taking down 4 large trees in my small fenced in back yard. They removed a old chain link fence and also disposed of it for me. They did everything we discussed and agreed upon for a reasonable price. They were prompt and professional. They left my yard neat. I would definitely recommend Angelâ s Tree Service."

"Not even sure where to start with these guys. Courteous, quick, efficient is a good start. They arrived when they said they would and they took less time than they said they would. 3 trees gone, 3 stumps ground, right at 2 hours. We were amazed at how quickly they worked. Obviously pros. They answered all the questions that we had. They picked up after themselves, and even gave me an “extra” service. I asked them to leave the birch wood for us to burn in the fire pit instead of grinding the bigger stuff. They not only did that, but they cut it into fire pit sized lengths AND they stacked it neatly in front of my other wood stack. If you need tree service, look no further. The crew at Rivera is aces and you won’t be disappointed."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Deciduous shade trees (the type of trees whose leaves fall off in autumn) need to be pruned in late winter—between February and March. That’s because it’s easier to find and remove sick or dead branches when no leaves are present. And wounds close and heal faster in colder temperatures so pruning them at this time also makes them less prone to infection.

Trees should be pruned every two to five years, depending on its age and type. Young trees should be inspected and pruned every two to three years. Mature trees should be inspected and trimmed every three to five years, and fruit trees should be pruned annually with a careful eye on seasonal growth. Evergreens typically don’t need pruning, unless branches or limbs are damaged, diseased, or harboring pests.

Most experts recommend removing a tree that has sustained more than 25% loss in the limbs, trunk, or circumference of the bark. Doing an initial trimming of damaged and dangling branches, but then waiting a few days of monitoring to decide how much more you might need to cut can help you better assess the total damage to the tree. However, consulting a tree maintenance pro to make this determination the best course of action before removing a tree.

In most cases, you should not use a pruning seal on trees after trimming. Applying a sealant can interfere with the tree's natural healing process, and it does not guarantee protection from pathogens. Instead of sealing the cut, the best practice is to support the tree's natural recovery by providing it with plenty of water and a dormant-style fertilizer. However, there are exceptions. Pruning seals may be recommended for very vulnerable species, like elm trees, in areas where dangerous diseases such as Dutch elm disease are prevalent. In these specific situations, the protection offered by a sealant can outweigh its downsides. For advice tailored to your situation, especially after cutting large branches, it is best to consult a local tree trimming professional.

On average, tree removal costs around $750, with a typical range between $200 and $2,000. The final price depends on several factors, including the tree's height, trunk diameter, species, and overall health. Accessibility is also a key factor; costs will be higher if the tree is in a hard-to-reach area or located near structures like power lines or your home. Additional costs may apply for services such as stump removal (which can add $100 to $150), log-splitting, debris cleanup, and obtaining necessary permits. It is also customary to tip the professional, usually between $20 and $100.
