"I recently had Black Diamond Roofing (BDR) repair an area on my roof were shingles had come loose and blown away due to very strong winds leaving my roof exposed. Once I reached out to BDR, Aaron promptly came out to view my damage and offered an estimate. Aaron was professional, friendly, upfront with costs, and detailed regarding the work. He even found rusty nails the previous roofing company left and brought a hand full down from my roof. I was super impressed with the customer service I received and I was scheduled within 2 weeks. Today the area on my roof, including some areas that needed to be fixed to the roof better was completed and it looks amazing!! I will no doubt call BDR in the future for all my roofing needs and always recommend their services. Two thumbs up 👍 👍 & 5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 for an outstanding experience, and quality work with a guaranteed!!! 🙌💯"

Roofing questions, answered by experts

Copper roofing works well in all kinds of climates, but it’s ideal in humid climates because it naturally repels fungus, moss, and algae. This makes it one of the best roofing options for Cape Cod homes in the Northeast, as well as homes in the humid southern states and snowy northern states. That said, copper is vulnerable to thermal expansion. If you live in a climate that has extreme temperature changes, your contractor will need to consider this during the installation process.

Yes, you should seal and cap an unused chimney to protect it from damage. Sealing the structure helps prevent moisture damage, which can lead to issues like cracks, spalling, efflorescence, and damaged mortar joints. Capping the chimney is also crucial to prevent blockages, damage from invasive critters, and downdrafts, while still allowing for proper air ventilation to manage moisture. For the best results, consult a chimney professional to select the right type of chimney or flue cap for your home. It's also wise to continue with annual chimney inspections to maintain the structure's integrity.

You can think of a flat roof as a green roof, as it does offer some environmentally-friendly advantages. When considering an eco-friendly flat roof, some of the green roof pros and cons include that you could place a garden with plants on the flat roof. Manufacturers may use recycled materials in the construction of the flat roof for an eco-friendly design.

Though roof coatings can last up to two decades, it’s a good idea to recoat your roof every four to six years. This is especially important if you have a built-up roof, which is vulnerable to moisture issues. Inspect your built-up roofs annually to make sure they don’t need a new coat.

No, you do not need gable vents if you have a ridge vent. In fact, gable vents would actually interrupt the process that ridge vents are set to conduct. You would be better off to decide between the two depending on your home’s needs.
