"We highly recommend U.S. Energy Solutions...Mom and dad had some unforeseen electrical issues that needed to be fixed in their kitchen due to an inspection review before selling their home. I went to Angie's List put in a request for suggestion and U.S. Energy Solutions got right back to me. We set up and appointment! Electrician was prompt, courteous, professional and friendly. He diagnosed the issue straight away, took the time to show us and explain the problem. His confident approach to the problem was reassuring and was fixed quickly! All the way around a great experience!!"

"I hired Bayou for what I thought was a minor problem. As it turned out I had a very serious problem with my electrical panels both inside and out. The technician was very helpful and informative and showverme in detail what my problem was.The service was great and over and above what I would expect. Since the problem was a danger to my home, they moved very fast to fix the problem. I cannot say enough about the stellar service. As far as price is concerned, because the problems grew, the service e tech did manage to discount the second phase of the project. I do not know , frankly, if the cost is comparable to other companies, but I am grateful I did not have an electrical fire and that my home is intact. I highly recommend Chris as a technician. He did not leave the day of service until he was sure I was safe in my home until the remaining part arrived and was installed."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Yes, you must use an extension cord specifically rated for outdoor use to power outdoor lights, such as Christmas lights. Extension cords intended for indoor use lack the protective properties to withstand exposure to outdoor elements. To safely hang and power lights outside your house or in your yard, always connect them to an outdoor power source using an outdoor-rated extension cord.

Yes, you can use a dimmer switch with an LED fixture, but it must be a dimmer that is compatible with LEDs. Check the manufacturer’s information to ensure the dimmer works with LEDs, as not all dimmers are compatible with them. Many smart light switches accept LEDs, but be sure to read the details on the packaging.

A C-wire is typically blue, but don’t rely on colors to find which wire is which when it comes to thermostat wires. The C-wire may also be black, brown, or purple. Instead, if you’re looking for the C-wire, look at the thermostat panel for a wire connecting to “terminal C,” or call in a pro to help you look for a C-wire.

Do not touch electrical wires in your home without first turning off the power at your circuit breaker and testing the wire with a voltage meter or multimeter. Electricity still flows through wires even when a light switch is powered off, and touching wires with the switch on can result in electrical shock.

Yes, dehumidifiers use a lot of electricity. However, proper humidity also means your home’s temperature remains more stable, thus lowering heating and air conditioning bills. The good news is you shouldn’t need to use a dehumidifier more than a few months per year, so the energy costs won’t be as noticeable as other larger appliances.
