"5 stars! Mark Chapman with US Energy Solutions just installed a manual transfer switch box for my portable generator. The work was done professionally, on time, and very reasonably priced. Mark tested the install before he finished and it was perfect the first time. He was knowledgeable and experienced. My next electrical project will start with a call to Mark!"

"Mr. Electric of Greenville did excellent work. They were on-time, clean, and courteous. They replaced our electrical panel, and despite having to work through a number of difficult issues they stayed until all of the work was completed. I will definitely plan to hire them again for my next electrical work project."

"We wanted to update our dated kitchen, and needed to upgrade multiple aspects of the electrical. We called Current Electric on recommendation from a friend who had used their services in the past. Through the entire process of replacing the old lighting with more modern fixtures, installing an outlet in the pantry for our toaster oven to free up counter space, and adding a switch under the sink for the new garbage disposal we had plumbers install beforehand, these contractors were friendly, professional and knowledgable. They worked in a timely manner that allowed us to stress less about the project and enjoy the new look and function of our updated kitchen. Everything works just how we had hoped and we intend to use their services for any future electrical work."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

For electrical projects in Greenville, you must obtain an electrical permit through the Greenville County Permits and Inspections Division. This applies to new installations, upgrades, and major repairs. Homeowners performing their own work must complete a homeowner exemption form and submit a disclosure statement. All work must comply with the National Electrical Code as amended by Greenville County. Permit fees vary by project scope; consult the local building department for details.

Helpful?

In Greenville, using copper wiring is preferred for most residential electrical projects due to its conductivity and compliance with local code. The Greenville County Building Code Office recommends weather-resistant conduit for outdoor installations and AFCI or GFCI outlets in kitchens, bathrooms, and garages. Local suppliers often stock code-compliant materials tailored to Greenville's requirements, so always verify products meet local standards before purchasing.

Helpful?

Greenville's humid summers and occasional winter storms can affect electrical projects, especially outdoor wiring and panels. The Greenville County Permits and Inspections Division recommends using weatherproof enclosures and corrosion-resistant materials for exterior installations. Plan electrical upgrades during milder seasons to avoid weather-related delays. Seasonal surges in demand, such as increased air conditioning use, also highlight the importance of proper circuit sizing and surge protection.

Helpful?

After completing electrical projects in Greenville, schedule periodic inspections with a licensed electrician to ensure ongoing code compliance and safety. The Greenville County Building Code Office advises homeowners to check for signs of wear, such as discolored outlets or frequent breaker trips. Test GFCI outlets monthly, and keep outdoor wiring protected from moisture. Preventive maintenance helps avoid costly repairs and ensures your electrical system remains reliable.

Helpful?

DIY electrical work in Greenville may save on labor costs, but it exposes you to risks like code violations and safety hazards. Improper installations can result in failed inspections or insurance issues. Hiring a licensed Greenville electrician ensures your project meets local building codes and passes official inspections by the Greenville County Permits and Inspections Division, providing peace of mind and warranty protection for your investment.
