"Until now, we've never had any luck finding painters that are dependable and knowledgeable. Many only provide the labor: they can use a brush but have no expertise and are unable (or unwilling) to guide you on the proper prepping and materials needed to do the job correctly. Others are undependable: they constantly delay the start date, don't show up when schedule, don't return to fix mistakes, etc. Jim Valentine, the owner of Valentine Painting, was professional and promptly answered all my questions. He was very knowledgeable about the proper materials and work needed to do the job properly. This was a big job and I wanted to make sure it was done right so it would last. I was concerned because some of the wood on the siding and deck was recently replaced while the rest was old. He guided me on all the different type of stains and paints needed to properly protect the exterior: the cedar siding on the house used one type of stain, gutters and garage doors needed a paint for metals, the foundation needed a paint for cement, the window trim, fence and shutters used other paints and the deck, porch and walkway areas needed yet a different type of stain. Although Jim was more expensive than some of the other bids, I felt I was paying for the expertise. Valentine's price was higher than the small companies/individual painters. However, many of those bids did not include the paint/stain in the quote and they said they "would do whatever prepping treatment I wanted" and would "paint with whatever I picked out." If I was a paint expert, that might have been fine. But I am not! Conversely, Valentine's price was slightly lower than the quote I received from one of the national, franchise paint companies and Jim was much more responsive. The paint crew (Noah, Elmer and Jennifer) did a great job and were pleasant to work with. Noah (the foreman) seemed to be genuinely concerned that the work was performed to our satisfaction. They completed the job well before my required completion date. In the past, we've put off painting projects because we always dread trying to find someone. Next time, I will call Valentine Painting first."

"I hired Painting & Moore to paint the outside of my home and to do some drywall work. My house is made of brick so I thought this would be pretty straight forward, but this ended up being a disaster. (see attached photos). Every window in the home was painted shut. The irony of this was that we hadn't planned to get the insides of the windows painted but they advised us that it would look better if we did. Other painters later told me that painting a window shut is like the cardinal sin of painting; it should never happen to a professional. To make matters worse, when we told the crew that we couldn't open our windows, one of them became very angry and yelled at us and stated that it was our fault for not telling him to open the windows. The foreman, Oscar, told us that he was sorry this had happened, but that if we needed him to come back for touch ups then that would make up for the windows and they just left like the job was done. THEY JUST LEFT! I called the service manager, Ben, and he was very apologetic about everything and tried to put a plan together to fix this. So the crew comes back over and pries all the windows open and repaints. The service manager assured me he would come by that day to make sure all the windows were taken care of, but never did. After the paint was dry, we went around the house to close all the windows. WE COULDN'T GET ALL THE WINDOWS TO CLOSE. This is when I lost all confidence in Painting & Moore. I had to go outside at 9 o'clock at night on a ladder to try and push my crank windows shut from the outside. Some window seals had literally been ripped in two from when the painters were trying to force open the windows that had been painted shut. We did eventually get them all closed, but decided it was time to cut all ties with Painting and Moore and hire someone else to fix all this. Looking back, there were several signs that this was going to be bad. The crew was unprepared. They kept asking to use my tools. I had to loan out my drill, table saw, even had to dig out screws from my toolbox so they could use them for the drywall repairs (which didn't even get sanded down). They tracked in all kinds of dirt into the house. You can literally see their foot prints in the attached pictures."
