"Falcone is my go-to company for foundation repairs. I settled with them out of 3 bids, and they were the only company not to belittle another company. Eric and his crew kept everything peaceful and clean! We didn’t barely know they were here until the last day of work with some slight banging lol My floors are now beautifully leveled! The company was very informative and willing to answer any questions we had! Everyone who had their own parts in helping with our home were on time and very professional! From my understanding this is a family owned company and I’m glad we went with them! 10/10 would recommend!"

"My name is Toby I am a financial consultant and selected Stokes Concrete and design out of 4 other companies. Stokes was not the most expensive or least expensive. I like quality and humble people and with Stokes you get an abundance of both. Even though it was a very cold the day we poured Stokes and company worked diligently the entire day making sure my floor was right. I want Stokes Concrete to know to not change a thing and I am looking forward to our next project. I know I can expect top quality. Thanks"

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Fall is the ideal season for masonry work in SC. October and November provide comfortable temperatures and lower humidity, allowing mortar to cure perfectly. Avoid scheduling large projects during the summer, as extreme heat causes mortar to dry too quickly and crack. Winter projects require careful monitoring to prevent fresh mortar from freezing, while spring and hurricane seasons bring heavy rain delays.

Helpful?

Keep a stiff-bristle brush and a non-acid efflorescence cleaner ready to scrub away mold and white mineral deposits caused by Sumter humidity. Store pre-mixed mortar repair compound and exterior-grade caulk to seal minor cracks before seasonal rains arrive. Apply a breathable masonry water repellent to protect exterior surfaces. Keep a flashlight handy to inspect joints, and maintain tools for clearing your gutters.

Helpful?

Safety is critical during masonry work in SC. High summer temperatures demand strict heat illness prevention, including mandatory shade and hydration breaks. Workers must use wet-cutting methods and respirators to prevent dangerous silica dust exposure. Inspect the ground for active fire ant nests before digging. Maintain required clearances from overhead electrical lines and ensure all scaffolding over six feet meets strict safety standards.

Helpful?

Everyday routines easily damage masonry work. Pointing sprinklers at brick walls or piling mulch against the foundation traps moisture in Sumter. Aggressive pressure washing damages older brick, while planting climbing vines drives roots into mortar joints. Keep gutters clean to stop rainwater from pouring over walls. Fix minor mortar cracks promptly before winter freeze-thaw cycles expand the damage.

Helpful?

Unseen issues frequently increase the final bill for masonry work in Sumter. Excavation uncovers unstable, clay-heavy soil that requires extra drainage or engineered footings. Contractors discover hidden termite damage or deep moisture infiltration that demands immediate repair. Older properties trigger mandatory lead paint and asbestos testing. You must also account for mandatory building permits, structural inspections, and sourcing rare historic brick.
