"Tuck&Howell technicians responded quickly to my call about a non-working home AC. The technician diagnosed a blown compressor and since our system was 20 years old recommended AC replacement. We researched and decided to replace both the AC and gas furnace to maximize efficiency. The system was diagnosed on Monday, parts ordered by Wednesday, and new system installed Friday morning - just ahead of a heat wave. (We are priority plus plan members at Tuck&Howell and that may have given us some priority - I recommend their priority plus plan service as well, which we've had for some 15 years or so.) The installation went smoothly and the new system is working great. Be sure to ask for a new thermostat, if needed, when you get a new system installed since it may or may not be included by default. We asked and it was provided. Our unit was a Carrier 3-ton, 14-seer unit with AC and gas furnace."

"Ryan came out and inspected our HVAC since we had trouble cooling the upstairs. He said the biggest problem was the duct work, suggesting that needed to be replaced. We decided to have our entire HVAC system replaced since the current system was 9 years old and of a low end system. Marius and Drew came out to replace the system. Considering they started on the 2 hottest days of the week, they did a great job installing the new system and reworking the ducting in the attic. They provided updates on their progress and what they were doing. They were very personable and cared about the quality of work they provided. Thanks to Marius and Drew!!"

"Nick was excellent. He installed concrete board and tile floor in the laundry room, removed old and installed a new front entry door, and installed new railing on deck. All were done right and looked great."

"I cannot praise Chad and Claudis from C&C Plumbing and Electrical LLC enough for their outstanding service installing my water heater. From the moment the gentlemen arrived, it was clear that professionalism and expertise were their work ethic. Not only were they punctual, but their knowledge and skillset were truly impressive. I got out of these gentlemen's way and let them go to work. The installation process was seamless, and their attention to detail was on point. They worked efficiently with time, ensuring everything was functioning and looked great after installation. What impressed me the most was their dedication to customer satisfaction. These gentlemen went well above and beyond to exceed my expectations. Despite being a small business, Chad and Claudis provided a level of service that far surpassed anything I've experienced with the larger named companies in the area. Their commitment to doing what's right and not racking up unnecessary billing was shown in every aspect of their work, from start to finish. Their professionalism extended to the end of the installation with the cleanup process, leaving no mess behind. My water heater installation was completed perfectly, and I am beyond satisfied with the results. Chad and Claudis have earned my highest recommendation, and I will, without any doubt, turn to them for any future plumbing or electrical needs. C&C Plumbing and Electrical LLC stands out for all the right reasons in a market filled with big names. Thank you, Chad and Claudis, for your exceptional service and for exceeding my expectations. I am happy with no regrets for reaching out to you and trusting you with your business."

Install Garbage Disposal questions, answered by experts

Soil is just one of the items you shouldn't put down a garbage disposal. Garbage disposals are only meant for soft, non-fibrous foods. Large amounts of topsoil, dirt, or rocks will damage the blades of your garbage disposal or clog the pipes. If a small amount of dirt goes down the drain as you repot a plant, you shouldn't have to worry, but never dump a whole pot of soil in the sink for fast disposal.

While the drain connection for a garbage disposal is nearly universal and fits standard sink drain holes of 3 1/2 to 4 inches, the size of the disposal unit itself is not. You must have enough space in the cabinet underneath your sink to accommodate the disposal's housing. A larger model may not fit in a compact cabinet or if the existing plumbing is arranged in an unusual way. Before buying a new garbage disposal, measure the available space under your sink. If you are replacing an old unit, it's often easiest to choose a new model of a similar size.

On average, a garbage disposal can last anywhere from 7 to 12 years, with many models functioning well for about 10 years. With heavy usage, a motor may last a minimum of five years, while grinding plates will wear down over time. It's generally a good idea to consider a replacement if your unit is approaching the 10-year mark. Other signs that it's time for a new disposal include frequent leaks, persistent clogs, lingering odors, lack of power, or unusual noises. If your unit is not that old, it's worth investigating if a less expensive part, like a rubber seal or a loose hose, is causing the issue.

On average, it takes one to four hours for a professional to install a garbage disposal. This includes removing the old unit, taking necessary measurements for positioning, removing and fitting new pipes, and installing the brand-new disposal system. If there are unforeseen issues, such as accessibility concerns, the process takes longer.

These appliances certainly increase the number of things allowed down the drain, but they’re not foolproof. There are several items you shouldn’t put in your garbage disposal, according to manufacturers and technicians. Don’t put coffee grounds down the drain. The same goes for eggshells, potato peels, hard foods, onion skins, and any dry, expandable food. Most importantly, never put grease or oils down the drain.
