"Russell was very thorough. He checked everything, asked me questions, and showed evidence of issues. He did more than simply fix a problem. He educated me on how to determine when a problem is arising. He offers a phenomenal benefit plan to keep HVAC unit in great condition year round. I would highly recommend him for your HVAC needs."

My names Cayden Shadoan, I’m 23 years old. I have a beautiful wife and daughter. I have a full time job as a pipe welder in Sumter South Carolina. I’m on here just looking to pick up a couple extra jobs here and there in hopes of starting my own business one day to be able to stay home with my family more. I can do pretty much anything that needs done in or around your house. Specializing in building fences or repairing fences, any kind of piping jobs, or any welding. Thank you for considering me to help you get what you need done. Hope to see you soon.

"Chris and his team came out to diagnose my mold issue on my vents and AC blower. Chris was knowledgeable (has over 12 years of experience). They were able to figure out the problem, give me a quote, and treat my duct system in the same day. They were prompt, friendly, and thorough. I had an issue 5 days after service with the AC capacitor blowing out, causing the AC to not work in my house. Ms. Denise, the scheduling coordinator, quickly found me an HVAC company to diagnose the issue and provided financial assistance with the service. While this whole process was stressful and expensive, I am impressed with Deniseâ s customer service. I felt like this company was fair and considerate. They are also very accessible and make themselves available to their clients. Thank you, Chris and American Air and Mold for a great team that values integrity."

Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

On average, an AC unit lasts between 10 and 20 years. However, the specific lifespan depends on the type of unit, how often it's used, the local climate, and the quality of maintenance. Central AC units typically last 12 to 17 years, while window units have a shorter lifespan of 8 to 10 years. Portable AC units last about 5 to 10 years, and ductless mini-split systems can last up to 20 years. To extend the life of your AC unit, it's important to perform regular maintenance, such as replacing filters, cleaning coils, and scheduling annual professional tune-ups.

Ideally, an AC system should never need more Freon (a popular refrigerant) because it circulates in a closed loop. However, refrigerant leaks are not uncommon and may occur gradually over 5 to 15 years. If your system has a leak, it will need to be topped up in a process known as an AC recharge. Signs of a refrigerant leak include weakened AC performance, increased humidity in your home, higher utility bills, and a hissing sound from the unit. The cost of an AC recharge will depend on the size and type of your AC unit, as well as the type of refrigerant it uses.

Absolutely! You can seriously improve the overall value of your home by maintaining high-quality, compatible systems for heating and cooling. Potential buyers will love not having to worry about getting a new HVAC unit for 15 to 20 years and will pay more for it. For maximum efficiency and cost savings, replacing the furnace and air conditioner at the same time, when possible, gives you (and potential future buyers) reliable comfort and modern convenience.

This is a bit of a trick question. Even though the seasons arrive at the same time every year, the weather doesn’t always behave according to the calendar. So, while it’s fair to say that you can expect to turn on your AC starting in late May or early June, it all depends on the outside temperature and how cool you like to keep your home.

During the summer, it’s best to set your AC to 78 degrees when you’re home and awake, according to the Department of Energy (DOE). For better energy efficiency, raise the temperature slightly to 85 degrees while you’re out of the house. The National Sleep Foundation advises lowering your thermostat to between 60 and 67 degrees when you’re asleep.
