"American Home Shield (AHS) warranty is replacing my broken microwave with a new one. I received the new microwave on 11/11/2020 and notified AHS it was in my possession. Part of the warranty contract includes the installation of the new microwave. AHS typically assigns contractors themselves. However, this time AHS contracted with C & R Services with a dispatch number on 11/13/2020 for C & R to assign a local contractor to do the install. After two weeks of waiting and not being contacted by C & R or a contractor, I called C & R to follow up on the status. They said it would be 1 to 2 weeks from the date they received the dispatch from AHS. I informed them it had been 2 weeks in which they replied that it would be another 2 weeks. As of today, 12/11/2020, 4 weeks from the date C & R received the dispatch, I have not been contacted by C & R or a contractor. C & R's lack of communication and customer service is absurd. AHS informed me that they do not have any authority over C & R."

"My chest freezer broke down and I did not want to buy a new one since I could not afford the same size. I reached out to appliance parts pro and they were confident that what I ordered would fix my problem. $200 in parts later and I now have a broken freezer on my porch and am still paying the loan to this terrible company. They just want you to order parts and try them because they know you can't return them. I hate this company with every fiber of my being and will make sure that anyone that has a broken appliance will not use them. To top it off, their site is so screwed up that it give you an error trying to log back in. I ended up having to create THREE different accounts because every time I went to place a new order, it would not let me login and it would not send a password reset email. DON'T GET RIPPED OFF."

"This is the first online review I've ever written -- my experience with this company was that bad. Three aspects that deserve attention: 1) I placed an order and tried to cancel six minutes later. Turns out they don't accept cancellations. 2) I couldn't find a phone number, so I had to work the return/refund by email. The exchange was painful -- so unhelpful I felt like I was interacting with a bad chatbot. 3) I ended up eating shipping costs (expected) and got hit for a 50% restocking fee (unexpected) because I refused the package instead of paying to ship it back. Didn't matter that it went to the correct address, was clearly labeled, and had prior return authorization. Outside of deep cleaning your oven and keeping your stovetop sparkling, you should not attempt DIY oven repairs, especially if you have a gas oven.  Even the most straightforward repair can be dangerous if not done correctly, and that’s not a risk worth taking. It’s always best to hire an oven repair specialist to assess the repair needed for your oven and appropriately (and safely) take care of it for you. 

In most cases, it’s worth hiring a professional installer to place and connect your appliances. Appliances like a washer and dryer are heavy and bulky, so they can be dangerous and challenging to maneuver into your home, especially if you have to move up or down stairs. Some appliance manufacturers might void your warranty or portions of it if your appliance is installed incorrectly, which is more likely to happen with a DIY installation. Additionally, any appliances requiring connections to gas or water lines should only be handled by professional installers for safety reasons.

If you can’t get your microwave to stop tripping the breaker, hire a local appliance repair professional. They have the skills to quickly identify the problem and fix it. These professionals also have the knowledge and experience of working with appliances, so they know how to take the proper precautions to minimize the risk of electrical shock and fires.

Although some oven doors have screws in them that hold the handle or the glass in place, you should not remove these screws. Your oven’s hinges should pull loose without the need to remove the screws. If you are repairing your oven door, though, you may need to remove some screws.

The magnetron, which is the component that generates the microwave energy used to heat your food, is the most likely piece to cause your appliance to fail. Unfortunately, your microwave won’t serve any purpose without a functioning magnetron, so not only is this the most common repair, but it’s also the most important. 

Repairing a broken magnetron usually costs between $100 and $200 or $175 on average. About half of that cost goes toward labor, and the other half is for a new magnetron. Higher-end microwaves may demand larger or more complex components, which could increase your repair cost.
