"We purchased a fixer-upper, and CMH was recommended by our realtor. They removed existing flooring and installed new hardwood and tile throughout our home. Colin and Traci were consummate professionals during the entire process. They coordinated their activities with our general contractor and us, were responsive throughout, and were always reliable. CMH actively participated in problem-solving when there were schedule changes. We had a couple of supplier issues that CMH handled more than fairly, and we would recommend them to anyone."

"We needed carpet replaced in a living room. Carpet selection was very convenient at our house with Rob's assistance. It was helpful to see the samples on site. The installers arrived on time and were efficient and provided a very good installation. We are very pleased with the quality of the carpet and installation. Customer service was excellent at every stage. Price is competitive and was lower than a big box store for comparable carpet."

"We decided to remove the carpet in our first floor recreation room and go with custom tile installation . This area leads out to the back yard and the pool through a series of french doors so we wanted a classy but fun look. Quality Flooring really cares about the craftsmanship behind their work. Les is an artist who is thoughtful about the design and proud of the finished product. He took the time to explain his process and worked with us to ensure we got the exact look we were looking for. He offered suggestions and ideas which helped us immensely . If you want a custom experience Les is the guy for you. Highly recommended.

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Tiles last for around 100 years or more. Tiles on backsplashes can last even longer since they’re less likely to crack under foot traffic or from accidental drops, but even tile in high-traffic flooring can last a century or more with proper installation and upkeep. Porcelain tiles are denser and stronger than standard ceramic tiles, so they’ll last longer, often pushing past the 100-year mark.

Yes, it’s possible to cut tile without a wet saw; instead, you can use an angle grinder, a glass cutter, a snap cutter, tile nippers, or a rotary tool with a tile-cutting blade. A manual tile cutter or snap cutter works well for the larger tiles that wet saws are typically used for, while smaller projects might just require nippers or a glass cutting wheel. If you’re working with large quantities of tile, however, power tools are best.

For best results, you should remove the toilet in a bathroom before removing tile or installing new tile. If you don’t remove the toilet, it will be harder to fully waterproof the tile around the toilet, which could increase the risk of mold growth or plumbing leaks. If you have trouble removing the toilet, hire a plumber to help.

The underlayment determines a ceramic tile’s sturdiness, and a cement board or backer board works best. Be sure to tape the joints when using these materials, and consider laying it on top of a layer of thin-set for more stability.

Yes, you can tile a shower as a DIY project, and you can save hundreds of dollars in labor costs by doing so. However, you’ll need to rent or buy quite a few tools and supplies for the job, including a saw, tile nippers, and a new shower pan. In terms of the work itself, you should be prepared to tackle a variety of different tasks, including measuring and ordering materials, removing old tile, waterproofing the wall, adding rows of tile, grouting, and more.
