"Were the only company out of 6 that responded quickly to my phone call, were at my house for inspection and estimate within a day, instead of 2-3 weeks like other companies. The owner came out and explained clearly (in layman's terms and with detail how they would fix the damage.) He gave an on-spot estimate that never changed. My fear was that he would offer the estimate, then nickel and dime me out of thousands more, but he stuck with the original estimate. He seems to know the business enough to provide an accurate estimate on the first visit. They came on time, finished the day they estimated and did a great job on the fix. The tile in the bathroom was not up to my standards, so I called Travis. He personally came out within an hour of my call. Agreed that the work was substandard, and completely redid the tile work for not charge. This type of service can be rare. It took an extra day, but they left the bathroom as if it were new.

You can lay tile directly on a plywood countertop, but if it’s a high-traffic surface in a kitchen, it’s better to add a moisture-resistant base. Plywood is susceptible to moisture, so if dampness seeps through from the surface around the sink or where you prep food, it can cause the plywood to warp, leading to grout damage, cracked tiles, or mold growth under the surface.
No, you don’t need to remove the old grout before installing new tile over existing tile. In fact, the old grout helps fill in gaps between tiles, creating a more even surface for the new layer. However, it's important to ensure that the grout is clean, solid, and free of cracks or crumbling areas. Damaged grout should be repaired or replaced before proceeding. Cleaning the surface thoroughly and filling any low spots will help the new adhesive bond properly and ensure a smooth, stable installation.
The best trowel for penny tile is a 3/16-inch-by-5/32-inch V-notch trowel. Because of the small size of the penny tile, you want a trowel with small notches that can lay a thin layer of mortar on the surface you’re tiling. If the notches are too wide, you risk applying too thick of a layer of mortar, and it can squeeze out between the penny tiles.
To ensure an even and unbending surface to lay tiles on, you’ll typically need to put a subfloor under a tile floor. Fiber cement backboards are the most common choice, but using plywood is also possible. Don’t neglect this step, or you could risk water damage and grout or tiles prematurely cracking or crumbling, especially in an area with high foot traffic.
Regardless of the material, basic square tiles will never go out of style. Neutral colors like white, grey, beige, and black will always be in demand in residential and commercial settings. Certain designs, like herringbone and hexagonal patterns, are considered timeless. Porcelain and porcelain-like tiles will also never go out of style.
