"PIg in a poke thru Home Advisor and I couldn't have been more pleased. Andre was on time, professional and had polite and professional crew. DIfficult job in brutal heat but went the extra mile to complete demolition and removal of trash working with Mt. Pleasant Public Works and Nature Calling. Honest, caring and kind. "My initial contact, David, with the company was great. When I got handed off to the local company that would be taking care of the paperwork and scheduling several things got lost in translation and my project was delayed from the original promised date of completion. I spoke with my original contact and everything was back on track. The third group of people, the ones that showed up at my house, were also great. This was a tiring process but finding asbestos in your house is not easy either way. I would use this company again if I needed it."

Asbestos Removal FAQs, answered by experts

Asbestos-containing materials, like duct wrap, should be encapsulated using a sealant specifically formulated for asbestos. These sealants work to bind with asbestos fibers and help further neutralize them as a health risk. Whenever you’re working near asbestos-containing materials, be sure to keep safety as a top priority and wear a P-100-rated respirator as well as protective clothing.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) banned the use of asbestos pipe insulation in certain applications in 1975. It released further bans in 1989 and 2019. While asbestos pipe insulation was common from the 1930s to 1970s, its use fell off after the 1970s due to public concern and the EPA's actions.

While asbestos can’t be directly absorbed through the skin—the fibers are too big—skin contact can still produce symptoms. Contact dermatitis can flare up in sensitive individuals but in most cases, the danger from asbestos comes from inhaling the fibers, or dust, that is produced when asbestos is disturbed. If you touch asbestos by accident, immediately wash yourself and your clothes.

Regulations require certified professionals for removals and disposal in compliance with local and federal guidelines, ensuring safety and legality.

Most manufacturers stopped putting asbestos in linoleum before 1980 due to public concerns about its toxicity. However, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) didn’t ban asbestos-containing products until 1989, and a comprehensive ban was not announced until 2024. This means that homes built after 1989 may still have asbestos in their flooring.
