"Kell did a great job! He was on time and worked efficiently to get the job done. He cleaned up after the work was completed and even went above and beyond by taking care of the mess the leaking sink had left on the cabinet floor. I will be calling on Cransten handyman and remodeling for my future needs."

"The sales rep was very personable and seemed to have knowledge of drainage problems and solutions. The workers arrived on schedule and worked very hard to accomplish the task at hand. They routed the drainage to an open ditch parallel to the property. They also rerouted drainage for an existing, inefficient french drain and sump that was pumping water across the driveway that was washing the soil out from under the concrete and creating an unsightly stain. To this point, we felt that all was going well. The problem that arose was that the French drain they installed was still higher than the foundation of the house. They filled in the trench with gravel to facilitate drainage, but covered the gravel with the soil they removed, which is mostly clay. Consequently, the water still runs off across the top of the French drain and overwhelms the foundation. Moisture in the crawl space has not been significantly reduced. I talked to the rep about redoing the crawl space which had mold forming on the floor joists. He gave me a quote that included sealing all the vents, cleaning the mold, adjusting pitch of the interior perimeter French drain, relocating the crawl sump and pump to a better collection point, putting down new vapor barrier and installing a crawl space dehumidifier, ($1,500.00) at a total cost of $4,290.00. If we wanted mold remediation treatment in addition to just cleaning the mold, the cost was an additional $1,950.00. The rep also agreed to send a team back out to remove the top layer of soil from the French drain and fill the trench with gravel, build up the soil at the foundation, making the new French drain at a level lower than the foundation to contain the water, at no additional charge. Subsequent to all that, we discovered some major structural damage that was going to be costly. Alignment of priorities and available finances dictated that the crawl space would have to be put on hold, at least temporarily. I sent an email to the Moisture Loc rep explaining our dilemma, but reiterated that I still expected him to live up to his promise to fix the French drain deficiencies, for which I already paid handsomely. In spite of email, text messages and voice mail to the rep, I have never received the courtesy of a response. I can only conclude that since we had to suspend the crawl space work, there is no intention to make the necessary changes/repairs to the original work as promised.

"They were very responsive, came out promptly, and required little supervision from me- we just discussed what the problem was and they were familiar with the house already because they had been here before. It was reasonably priced for the work that they did. Since the repairs were done, my house has been so dry and I don't have any mice this winter!

"This was not an easy job but they did awesome work. One of the trees was facing the street and the other was between two fences.  We appreciated that they took care not to damage our fencing or landscaping.  We also felt their pricing was reasonable and definitely worth the work performed.  They also cleaned up very well. We highly recommend this company to others."

"What they did was good. The gentleman that installed the switches did not check the (2) 2-way switches before he left and I found that one switch would lock the other from turning on. They did have someone come back out and make the repair. My only complaint would be that they put the dimmer switches in inconvenient locations, as opposed to where I requested them to be installed."

"After my previous GC completely dropped the ball and got
fired, I had to file claims to get my deposit refunded. I had to get 2 or 3 second
opinion from qualified professionals. I contacted Chris as part of that
process. Chris promptly followed up, set up the appointment to gauge the work and
gave me the estimates in a timely fashion. All interactions were courteous and it
was refreshing that someone in this industry was pleasant to deal with given my
prior experiences.
I hope to use Chris for future projects when I am ready to
remodel.

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

The difficulty of adding a basement to an existing house can vary depending on the house’s location, the size of the basement, and the type and condition of the existing foundation. Adding a basement is a job best handled by the pros, so you’ll need to enlist professional help for this project.

It’s less expensive to finish your basement than it is to build an addition to your home. The average cost to refinish a basement is $32,000 (between $7 and $23 per square foot) while building an addition to your home costs $50,325 ($80 to $210 per square foot). Depending on the size of your basement and other factors, like moving plumbing and electrical, refinishing a basement is a more cost-effective option in most cases.

Physically, the most challenging part of finishing a basement is installing egress windows or doors when the space is below ground level. Mentally, the hardest part may be envisioning the project and planning around load-bearing and mechanical obstacles.

Rebar is an essential part of reinforcing a basement floor, as not having it can impact its structural integrity. It helps absorb the tension factors that contribute to cracks in your floor and strengthens its load-bearing capabilities by evenly distributing the weight. Not including rebar could lead to an unstable floor, so don’t skip it!

Walkout basements are not generally included in a home’s square footage, although they may be if they meet certain conditions that depend on local regulations. A finished walkout basement used as a living space may be counted toward square footage in some locations as long as all codes for livable space are met.
