"Chimney experts was very professional in both scheduling and the job. Al was very thorough to not only look at the chimney, but also to stay with me until we had fully built a fire and had it burning long enough to run a full test of the appliance. Would highly suggest for inspection and installation- they know the business well."

"Steve was fantastic! We brough in paramount to provide a quote for removing and replacing an old cast iron dampener. We had another company come out and provide us a quote on a basic chimney sweep and they recommended we replace the dampener (which was expensive) because they could not get the dampener open to clean the chimney. When Steve from Paramount came out to provide the quote, he informed us we would not necessarily need the new dampener, opened the existing one and cleaned the chimney. We just had our first fire last week (this is our new home)! Thank you Paramount and thank you Steve, we will be back!"

"During the 2013 blizzard, we had a number of trees uproot -- their close proximity to the house caused damage to the old 'stone and mortar' foundation of our home.
We found 'Valter Rego Masonry' through Angie's list, and we're so glad we did!
Valter Rego (the owner) came to size up the job, explaining exactly how he would go about doing the foundation repair.  Additionally, he would remove and replace the cement stairs and landing, also cracked by the uprooted trees.  Since excavating would be required, he indicated that he would also take care of removing and disposing of the remaining tree roots near the foundation.  Since their specialty is masonry, we decided to have him also include repointing our chimney and put on a stainless steel chimney cap as part of the entire job.  He also followed up with a prompt quote, which we felt was very fair, given the magnitude of the job.
He and his crew arrived when they said they would, and spent 3 days to complete the job.  While they were on-site, I remembered that we had a small stone knee wall on the back of the house that had started to crumble, and had always wanted to have repaired.  I talked to Valter, and he offered to repair it for us at no additional cost (unheard of in this day and age).
The completed job exceeded our expectations -- in fact, they went the extra mile to grade the earth near the foundation and threw down grass seed (we didn't even ask them to do this!).  We were pleasantly surprised when Valter came back to do a 'touch-up' on a void on the cement landing.  As best we could tell, a chunk of pine bark mulch must have landed in the wet cement -- it clearly did not meet his standards, so he removed it and filled the void, again without asking.  It became obvious to us that he treated our job as if it were his own home -- we can't express our gratitude enough to the crew at Valter Rego Masonry for doing such a great job, done professionally and with attention to detail.  We can't recommend them enough!

"I am a new homeowner and wanted to get my wood stove chimney cleaned. Good thing I did as there were dangerous problems with the chimney. Wasn't expecting the large bill for the repair, but now I know I will not have a chimney fire, or worse."

Fire Pit Installation questions, answered by experts

In addition to flashing, a roof cricket can help divert water around your chimney so that it drains properly off your roof. It’s shaped like a double triangle and is installed behind the chimney so that falling water spills evenly down each side. This helps prevent water from accumulating behind your chimney, which can increase water damage and the risk of leaks.

The International Building Code (IBC) requires cricket installation if a chimney built after 2012 measures over 30 inches in width. Chimneys constructed before that date are typically grandfathered in and aren’t required to have crickets installed.

Yes, a chimney damper is necessary. It controls airflow in and out of your fireplace, helping to retain heat when closed and allowing smoke to escape when open. Without a damper, your home could lose warmth during cold months, leading to higher energy bills. It also helps prevent downdrafts and keeps animals or debris from entering the chimney. In short, it’s essential for efficiency and safety.

After a house fire, you should not reenter your home unless the fire crew has told you it’s safe to do so. In the longer term, you should not attempt to make repairs to the house on your own. Professional crews are trained to clean up after a fire (including smoke and soot damage), dry out any water damage from the firefighter crews, and make the necessary structural, plumbing, and electrical repairs—and this is all likely covered by insurance.

No, it is not safe to use an outlet that sparked. A spark from an outlet could indicate a short circuit, loose or frayed wiring, or other serious damage. Continuing to use an outlet that sparks can increase the risk of electrical shock, electrical fires, and other hazards. It's important to turn off the power to the outlet at the circuit breaker if possible and avoid using the outlet until a licensed electrician has inspected and repaired it.

Attics often contain a mix of insulation, electrical wiring, and other materials that can pose fire risks. That’s why furnaces should be installed in the attic with proper insulation and clearance from combustible materials. Additionally, the furnace should be equipped with proper ventilation and heat shields to prevent the buildup of excessive heat in the attic space. Regular inspections and maintenance are also crucial to identify and address any potential fire hazards.
