"We hired Bertie Walsh to re-do our garage ceiling which had been incorrectly repaired by a different contractor (not a contractor found on Angie's List).  Bertie was a godsend because after he removed the ceiling he pointed out to us that the previous contractor had failed to connect the blue board to the joist (not sure if that's the right word) and there also wasn't any strapping holding it to the subsurface, which would have caused it to eventually bow out.  Bertie put a new section of ceiling up and finished it with plaster and did a remarkable job matching the existing ceiling.

Bertie is quiet and hard working.  No fluff with this guy.  He's an honest, no-nonsense guy who will give you a very reasonable quote, will show up when he says he will, and then quietly and diligently do the work.  He cleaned up well after the work was completed.  I found myself looking for other things that needed plastering or handiwork around the house just so we could hire him again.  Yep, he is that good!

"I cannot say enough about how professional and easy to work with Tom and his crew are. Tom came out and gave us a quote in October of 2011. When we didn't follow through, he sent us a followup letter offering 5% off the work if we signed the contract this spring (2012). That got us mobilized to get the job done.  He came out and sat down with us and we went into detail of every aspect of the project.  (We had hired another firm to paint our house and knew some 'don'ts' we didn't want to happen again)  He assured us we would be satisfied.  He was right!   Tom communicated to us every step of the way,  the crew came on time and stayed a full day every day until it was completed.  Each and every member of the crew treated our property with the utmost respect, and communicated consistently.  The very big job was completed in two weeks, even with unexpected repairs and little things that were added on.We had to pick the 'barn red' color, and try to match an existing building. The foreman intervened when he thought the color I picked would turn out too purple and suggested, in the most tactful way possible (afterall he was advising a woman about color!) that I should change my mind.  The color he suggested was perfect - thank you, thank you!!  Imagine if I had picked the wrong color and no one had the guts to correct me? Yikes!Additionally, my brother from VA was involved in the project and tends to complicate things beyond necessity, Tom dealt with him very tactfully and satisfied him as well - no easy feat let me tell you!The price we paid for the job was high, but the level of service and quality of the work was high too.  In this case we got what we paid for!"

"Barn Rescue – My barn was hit by a vehicle, which broke a large post and pushed section of siding out from under the roofline, plus major damage at ground level. Brad shored it up for the winter with an array of jacks and an enormous chain to ensure the thing wouldn’t fall down till they could return in the spring. Come spring, they fully replaced the damaged section’s support members and facade, and added bracing to the attic, rendering it stronger than before. Foundation support: The sagging beams and jerry-rigged support columns in the dirt basement of our 18th century house were inadequate. They dug and poured a dozen footings and lally columns, supporting a line of new 6x6 and 9x9 beams that provide solid support to the house above. They showed up promptly every day, worked fast, and left the site clean and finished. Both Brad and Chad have a deep knowledge about old houses and the techniques that were used, and I felt my historic register property was in good hands."
