Customers say: Super punctual

"WOW! We called around and got quotes from many masonry pros, and then we heard about Kevin through a friend. He was truly amazing from start to finish! He wanted to learn all about our project, and put together several proposals that would fit our needs & budget. He actually talked us OUT of a couple of unnecessary upgrades that most others were pushing. From design to scheduling to followup, he worked with us to get everything done in a timely and super high quality manner. We couldn't be more happy and we will never use anyone else for such projects. Highly recommended! A+++++++"

Small jobs welcome

Offers commercial services

"It is with great alacrity and satisfaction that I write this review of Arch Masonry. We undertook some renovations on our house, and the lower section required masonry work. I reached out to Arch Masonry, and Derk promptly contacted me, coming to our home to provide a fair estimate for the job. Derek’s employees were professional and completed the work with great care. We had the front of the house mended, and we were so pleased that we decided to continue the masonry work on the back of the house and the foundation. Derek was timely in his work and offered competitive pricing. I would highly recommend Arch Masonry to anyone seeking high-quality masonry services. Derek embodies professionalism, and I often wish I had the money, land, and resources to build a grand castle in my neighborhood, constructed by Derek’s masonry company. Sincerely, The Mosleys"

"Valter and his crew were prompt, courteous, respectful, and hard-working. Communication was great, and Valter consulted me at every step. His crew flawlessly re-pointed our foundation in several spots, built a new border around our front garden, and laid in a paved walkway. The results were stunning. Valter was direct, honest, and fair in his estimate and pricing. We will definitely work with him again!"

"They have a drone that took excellent photos before and after the job. The The job was to replace the chimney stack from the roof up. The chimney looks great. Unfortunately they delayed the work day 3 times, blaming each other for miscommunication. The day they finally showed up (over a month later) they requested an extra $1,800.00 blaming the other partner for under estimating the job. I regret not telling him to take his scaffolding down and leave. Nice enough guys but that was not right."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Depending on the amount of soot present, you can vacuum some of it using a brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner. Then, remove the leftovers with a mild cleaner, such as dish soap or vinegar mixed with water. Before applying a cleaning solution, saturate the bricks with clean water to prevent the cleaner from penetrating beyond the surface and causing structural damage to the bricks.

Stone houses used to be much more practical, but with the advent of stronger and cheaper materials like concrete, they aren’t seen as much anymore. There are some parts of the world where it makes sense to build with stone, and they are usually next to a stone quarry. Stone is, however, very weather-resistant, which is why many homes near the sea and on mountains are still built with local stone.

On average, a quality exterior brick stain can last between 10 and 20 years, and sometimes even longer. While it will look its best for a minimum of three to five years, its total lifespan depends on several factors. These include the quality and type of stain used, the condition of the brick, and the thoroughness of the surface preparation, such as proper cleaning. Following the manufacturer's application instructions and applying a sealant as a final step is also crucial. The stain's longevity can be affected by your location, climate, and the brick's exposure to harsh weather, high traffic, and other elements. Over time, the stain may begin to fade or look dingy due to weathering, erosion, dirt, and debris. Compared to paint, brick stain generally has a longer lifespan.

Painted exterior brick does not usually need sealing. Brick is a porous material, so you don’t want to apply a sealant that could trap moisture inside the bricks and cause erosion and structural damage. The risk of moisture-induced damage after sealing is higher in colder climates where trapped moisture can expand if it freezes. On the other hand, it makes sense to seal really old brick or kitchen backsplashes, where moisture from cooking can weaken the brick.

A fireplace is, by definition, an enclosed space where you burn wood or other fuel for the purpose of generating light and heat. A firepit burns wood and is much less expensive to build, but they aren’t technically a fireplace as it isn’t enclosed. An outdoor oven—commonly outdoor brick pizza ovens—often uses wood as fuel, but its primary purpose is to cook food, and you’d rarely just burn wood inside them for warmth or aesthetic reasons.
