"A1 Handyman & Plumbing Services saved my house. I moved into a home built in 1925 and after three months noticed an open, leaking pipe in the basement ceiling. Water was pouring out of it, to provide a more accurate description. Sean from A1 came to the house. He investigated the leaking pipe further and discovered not only serious plumbing issues (multiple pipes connected to the same main drainage pipe) but also an abandoned oil tank was hidden behind the drywall; the consequences of neglect and thriftiness from the previous owners. The huge tank made it impossible to reroute the pipes properly. Sean removed the oil tank, ripped up the subfloor, and reorganized the pipes correctly. The inspector had failed to see this issue and the previous owners did not disclose it. Sean's honesty and professionalism was a blessing and a nice change of a pace from my homeowning experience to date. He's a plumbing guru as far as I'm concerned, not to mention a gifted problem solver. I've hired him again for a different issue and will continue to do so when needed in the future."

"AJ had come to our house a few years ago for the estimate on the crawlspace. We also had one other company out for an estimate at that time. After meeting AJ we knew we would hire him because he also walked around our yard with us to suggest improvements with yard grading and other suggestions to keep water out. He was also upfront about the cost and work to be done. He didn't try to sell us on any gimmicks or anything we didn't need. AJ stands behind his work and is very knowledgeable and experienced. We did not go ahead with the project after the original estimate because we decided to put that project on hold. We needed to attend to our leaky roof and other home projects. However, when it came time to get the work done we called AJ without hesitation. Everything went great. AJs workers sealed off the areas in our basement where they were working and when they were done everything was cleaned up as if they were never there! AJs team removed several inches of dirt, stones and debris from the crawlspace floor. A French drain with a sump pump was installed and the walls of crawlspace were done over with concrete of AJs particular waterproofing blend. Additionally, hangers were installed on a sewage pipe which ran though the crawlspace. This was done because the pipe was supported by concrete blocks which needed to be removed in order to install the french drain. Now the crawlspace is in absolutely wonderful condition and Ill have piece of mind every time it rains. I can highly recommend AJ waterproofing."

"They had to work with my cement guy, where they initially installed my drains above my driveway and in front of my garage door, but the drains were not installed leveled to my soon to be installed driveway. They did come back, to re-level the drains, as the cement guy needed, but they did not secure (cement) the drains in place as required (their job). When it rained hard, all of the drains shifted and fell over, due to them not securing the drains in place! I contacted them about this, but got no resolution or returned call!! They were supposed to use cement to secure them in place, noting that after they are installed, you have to wait several days for the cement under the drains to settle/cure in place. I did not know the above had happened, until there was a bad rain, noting that it had been raining softly for several days , but when it rained hard, this is what happened! Thank GOD the cement guy was willing to correct the above, at no additional cost to me, since I was having a problem with ?Zoom? communicating with me, to correct their negligence!! Please note that they did a good job installing the pipes under ground, but not so good securing the grates in place!! They were very friendly also."

"Jeff, Rob and his crew were exceptional They answered all of my questions even took the time to show me how things worked. They installed a water catch basin and sump pump to replace our smaller 25 year old equipment. Jeff suggested a better pump They were meticulous in their work and cleanup except for the new pump you would not even know they're there. I would recommend ONCE&DONE for any of your waterproofing needs Thank you ONCE&DONE"

"The team arrived on time to do extensive work on my basement floor and walls and outside underground drainage issues. They worked tirelessly all day to remove old concrete, lay a new pipe system, pour new concrete, install sump pump, and seals. They prepped the walls and sealed and painted with Loxon paint. Radon seals were included in the redone areas. The outside work included installation of a new underground drainage pipe with pop up exit drain. A rubber membrane was installed behind the house siding. We?ve had several days of heavy rain since the waterproofing work was completed and the basement floor and walls have remained dry. We recommend Basement Gurus to other homeowners experiencing waterproofing problems for dependable and satisfying solutions."

Drain Pipe Installation questions, answered by experts

Regrading your yard can often fix drainage problems. You can also try aerating the lawn to encourage better drainage or install a new drainage system to prevent water from pooling in certain areas.

You can pour hot water down your gutter drain to melt ice and keep ice dams from forming. If the problems persist, consider investing in heat cables to run in your gutters. Heat cables can adjust based on the surrounding temperature to keep ice thawed.

Even if the shower drain doesn’t seem clogged or dirty, plan to clean it out about once per month—or more frequently if you or your family shed a lot of hair. It’s a good practice to remove any hair from the drain on a daily basis, as hair can accumulate fast and cause clogs in no time. You may also want to have a plumber thoroughly clean the drains in your home once every six months.

Knowing the signs can alert you to a clogged drain line. Clogs cause slow drainage or cause no drainage (if there’s a complete blockage). You may also notice foul odors, gurgling noises, water backing up in other appliances on the same line, or a poorly flushing toilet. If you experience any of these issues and think your line might be clogged, call a plumber.

If your kitchen is flooding, first turn off the water supply and electricity before entering the room. Next, focus on immediate flood control by cleaning up any standing water with a sump pump or wet-dry vacuum to prevent long-term water damage to your home. Open your windows and run any dehumidifiers you have handy. Finally, call a professional plumber to help find the source of the flood and repair it.
