"I hired Father and Daughter Painting to repair and paint my water-damaged ceiling. They were friendly and polite and were also very kind to my attention-needy dog. The job was done quickly and perfectly with no mess for a very reasonable price. I would hire them again and highly recommend them!"

"Had a 8-10 week backlog due to pandemic, but finally got the work scheduled. Showed up on time. Reviewed scope of work and got to work straight away. I added several windows on back & side of house to be painted & caulked. Add-on work was rather expensive relative to initial proposal, but the windows are on upper floor. Work was good overall. On close inspection, some prep work could have been done better. One extra request to apply mullion tape to the seams of several double windows was only completed on one window, and the old tape was not completely removed, leaving the mullion seam looking poor. Skipping the other windows may have been the result of miscommunication on my part. Other work was done well. Clean-up was good."

"Kathy and her team did a wonderful job on my home. She was able to advise on different colors and types of paint to be used. There were many holes in the wall and areas that needed to be repaired before the painting. They did a wonderful job and I'm very pleased with the result. They were flexible with me in terms of timing and cleaned up thoroughly after the job was done. I would definitely use them again and was very pleased with the final result."

"While not cheap, Heiler Painting is EXCELLENT. They gave a realistic estimate, helped us choose colors for both interior (3 rooms, 3 baths, plus kitchen cabinets), and exterior walls & shutters. So helpful! Attention to detail, down to tracking down metal fixtures for the shutters that matched the original 1912 metalwork. Highly recommend these professionals who take pride in their work. When I did not like the exterior color I chose & asked to change colors, they did"

"WJC painted both apartments in my duplex. I am very happy with the results. They have also done various handyman jobs throughout the property. Jim is honest, personable, and professional. He shows up when he says he will. His prices are fair."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Applying too much sealer to a deck might seem like extra protection, but it can cause more harm than good. Wood is a porous material with a limited capacity to absorb liquids. When you go overboard with sealer, the excess can't soak in and instead forms a film on the surface. This leftover layer is prone to peeling, cracking, and trapping moisture, ultimately defeating the purpose of sealing in the first place.

Routine cleaning, sealing/staining, and inspection prolong deck life and appearance.

Limewash and whitewash do not harm surfaces if you apply them correctly. Use on non-suitable surfaces can cause issues. For instance, applying limewash or whitewash to surfaces with existing sealants or incompatible materials may lead to poor adhesion or flaking. Also, harsh cleaning agents on limewashed or whitewashed surfaces can damage the finish. Proper preparation, application, and maintenance ensure that limewash and whitewash do not harm surfaces.

If your biggest concern is making sure your deck doesn’t show dirt, opt for a darker neutral color that blends in well with your surrounding landscape. A rich brown or dark grey are both good options that work with a variety of house colors. A high-quality acrylic paint is easy to clean and maintain, so it might be worth spending the money on.

Applying a sealer or topcoat after staining wood is highly recommended, though not always strictly required. A sealer protects the wood from moisture, UV rays, and weather-related issues, which is especially important for outdoor surfaces like decks and fences. It also enhances the stain's durability, prevents fading over time, and gives the wood a cleaner, more professional-looking finish. For some indoor applications, a sealer may not be necessary, depending on the type of stain used and the level of protection needed. It's always best to check the stain manufacturer's recommendations and consider the wood's intended use and exposure when deciding whether to apply a sealer.
