"Pablo Navarrete is a true professional. He was responsive to questions, showed up on time and his crew did a first rate job trimming a large tree in my front yard. I would definitely hire this company again and would absolutely recommend them."

In addition James cut up a leftover stump from when tree was cut down previously and carried the logs to the curb for pickp. My yard was cleared of all debris as well. Plus, he honored a quote from another Tree service company. I highly recommend Daily Grind for stump remova."

"Jay and his company are awesome! They listened to what I wanted and designed and installed exactly what would deliver what I asked for (color and deer resistant). And Jay continues to visit me, to service my concerns on a couple of plants that did not take (live) after being planted in Oct. Very competitive pricing too!"

"Alex Tree Service did a fantastic job of removing 4 large trees that were close to my house. One of the best experiences that I have had with a contractor ever. I would highly recommend Alex Tree Service. I was going to have them come back next year; however, I will have them return a few weeks to remove more trees and stump removal"

"Jim Rhoads, the owner came out promptly and explained every aspect of the job which included the removal of a very large cherry tree and flush cutting the stump as well as trimming the dead wood off a locust tree. He had a big crew of professionals who worked well as a team to get the job done meticulously. All of the wood and debris were hauled away leaving my yard looking absolutely beautiful. I was quoted a reasonable price for a job very well done. He is fully insured which is important in this line of work! I was extremely pleased with Tomahawk Tree Service and highly recommend them. I will definitely use them for any future tree service I may need."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

If you want to take your tree-planting hobby beyond your outdoor space, here are a few great ways to do it:

  • Encourage your neighbors to participate in the Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree City USA program, which has a four-step framework that helps communities grow and maintain their own tree cover.

  • Support businesses that plant trees.

  • Lobby your local government to plant more trees around your community.

  • Donate to a tree-planting charity.

Generally, avoid trimming trees in the summer (with the exception of pruning fruit trees as needed). Trees use a lot of energy in the summer, most of which is relegated to new growth. If you chop it too early, you could stunt the next season's growth. Again, when in doubt, do some research based on the specific tree type.

Some people prefer to leave or even carve a leftover stump, but we recommend removing it if possible. You can often dig out smaller trunks with a shovel once they have died and dried out. You can have stumps professionally removed, or request a service to grind them down to ground level so they can be replaced with other landscaping or objects.

Yes, burning wood with Dutch elm disease is a safer way to dispose of it than, say, tossing it in with the rest of your yard waste, which could potentially allow it to spread to healthy trees. But it’s always a good idea to check with your local government to make sure you’re complying with any ordinances about removing diseased trees as well as burning brush piles.

Trimming a tree can take anywhere from just two hours to a full day, depending on the age of the tree, the number of trees, and the species. Young trees are generally easier to trim, as their branches are often thinner in diameter and easier to reach compared to mature trees. They also tend to be healthier. If you haven’t trimmed your trees before or it’s been a while, the process could take even longer.
