"We needed to have our basement remodeled, requested a quote, and the owner was onsite in a few days, he was extremely flexible with our busy schedule. He provided us with a quote shortly after in a timely fashion. The work was of high quality, and completed in the estimated time. The overall price was reasonable and the project stayed on budget. Wally and all of his workers were always polite, professional, punctual, and extremely responsive. I would recommend this company to any for any of your home improvement needs. We are extremely satisfied, and look forward to working with Manfredia Carpentry in the future. We love our new basement!!!"

"As first time home owner, it is tough finding service people who are reliable and trustworthy and who aren’t looking to just patch the problem. AJ did everything he could, short of coming to assess the problem in person (because of Covid), to address the issue I was having with water in the back of my house. He is very responsive and very knowledgeable! I walked him through the problem over facetime and afterwards he gave me a clear assessment of what exactly was happening (in a way I could understand) and instructions as to what to do to fix it. It ended up being a problem that had to be addressed by a roofer, but I wouldn’t know that without AJ. I definitely recommend AJ if you need a knowledgable and reliable home water expert! Thank you for your excellent service!"

"I bought a house in 2021 that had significant water damage leaking through the walls onto the concrete floor in the basement. After researching multiple companies around the area, I reached out to Basement Gurus. Ashley, Boni, Josh, and owner of the company Dan Kelly, all went above and beyond to make sure that there would be no more water damage. They installed a French drain, vapor barriers, and more. The owner Dan Kelly personally came out to make sure that the work got done correctly. This company is the best around, you won't be disappointed."

"We hired Jm Drafting&Contracting for an addition and remodel of our home. Specifically we closed in our old porch and converted it to a living room and added a master bedroom with a bathroom on the upper level. They also remodeled our kitchen and dining room. In addition to that they replaced all the flooring through out the house and the roof. The project took about 2 1/2 months from start to finish. We are very pleased with everything that was done and would recommend them for future work."

"Overall it was really great to work with Legacy. Gary and Diane were on top of each step with me and made sure I had a full understanding of what was going on and what to expect. In a time where it can be hard to have projects move forward, Legacy worked hard to ensure we were able to complete in a timely manner even when unforeseen house items came up. Would recommend to anyone!"

"This company was a great to work with. Very professional and quick! They were able to complete my entire basement project: installing a french drain, sump pump, and rough casting on the walls in just one day. They brought in a large team to ensure the project was done correctly and efficiently. They also made sure to use drop cloths and plastic around the house to keep dust off of my furniture. This was very appreciated. The salesmen were great to work with and have the credentials/experience to back it up. Would definitely hire again!"

"I had a small but complicated, hard to access, and structurally essential repair job on a 60-year-old concrete deck attached to my 280-year-old Pennsylvania limestone farmhouse. I contacted several masons listed for my area on Home Advisor, and included Mr. Grady as a long shot -- I read about his expertise with historical structures and wished I had access to such an expert craftsman, but I didn't think he'd be interested in my teeny job and assumed I wouldn't be able to afford him anyway. He was the first one to return my call and to look at the job, and I thought his price was fair. I believe now it was way more than fair, considering the time he spent. He did extensive research, going over a structural engineer's report I had done previously on the deck and even examining the original architectural drawings and materials invoices from 1959. He showed up at least three times to complete the repair in stages, and has been back a half a dozen times since then to check the job -- and my location is not exactly in his neighborhood. He accepted only enough payment in advance to pay for lodging for himself and his assistant when they stayed nearby one night in order to be there early the next morning. He gave and continues to give free advice about preserving my stone house and patio. If you prod him a little, he might even share some of his personal philosophy, earned over a lifetime of work that is clearly more of an art form than a job to him. Overall, I'd say you can hire one of many competent contractors and get an adequate job, or you can hire Mr. Grady and get superior work by someone who cares about your property as much as you do."

House Leveling questions, answered by experts

Mudjacking is usually reserved for light-duty slabs, like patios, driveways, and sidewalks. However, it can be an effective way to lift garage slabs and concrete around the perimeter of the home, which could harm your foundation if it’s not done properly. The risk of damage is why having a professional mudjacking company carry out the work is important. This type of slab or foundation repair is relatively inexpensive, especially if you consider that a DIY job requires that you pay to rent the necessary equipment.

Yes, expanding foam (also known as polyurethane foam) can lift concrete. This approach, called polyjacking, involves injecting the foam rather than concrete slurry to fill voids and raise the concrete slab back into place. It’s often faster and requires smaller drill holes than traditional mudjacking, though it may come at a higher cost. Some contractors also prefer polyjacking over mudjacking for more damaged and delicate slabs.

Most houses are expected to settle over time, but foundation sinking of more than a few inches or uneven sinking of more than an inch for every 20 feet is cause for concern. Any significant or uneven sinking should be assessed by a professional to determine the cause and perform any necessary repairs.

A good slump height really depends on the project, but there is a use for nearly all slump levels. For example, low slumps are best in projects that require structure, such as curbs and roads. High slumps often require additional reinforcement, but they flow more freely into hard-to-reach spaces.

A sinking foundation can be lifted, most often by installing piers to re-level and support the weight of the house. Depending on the cause and extent of the sinking, other methods to lift a foundation include underpinning and mudjacking. Consult a foundation repair pro to determine the best way to lift your sinking foundation.
