"The Handy Express employees were great! They were so efficient and thorough . I smelled something burning in my light switch and the lights in the ceiling kept blinking. "The installation of our custom shelving project exceeded our expectations. Gino was professional and did an excellent job. Before starting the installation, he laid protective coverings over our wood floors and kept the work area organization zed and clean. Prior to beginning the installation, he did a mock-up on the walls to show how the shelves would look after being installed. We are extremely pleased with the results and highly recommend Redline Contracting, especially based on Gino's excellent workmanship and his customer service. Thank you Gino!"

"They came out in an emergency situation (gas smell) and found out that it was ice in the gas meter, which is the gas company's problem. They didn't even charge us for the service call! What company would do that now?!? Highly recommend!"

"We are thrilled with the retaining walls built by Chris Swope, owner, JCM Landscaping. Major points; 1. Licensed and insured yet provided lowest bid with specs identical to higher bids provided by other bidders. 2. Came on the promised date and finished quickly as promised. 3. An unforseen drainage issue was resolved with minimal added expense. 4. Chris saved a rhodo which other bidders said would be sacrificed. 5. Chris provided valuable design input including wall curvature and material selection. Can't go wrong with JCM. They are already being awarded additional jobs in my neighborhood based on work done at my house."

"Installed a new bathroom floor. And in the process found he had to replace subfloor to make it right. I appreciated him not cutting corners... Also installed a new light fixture that I had purchased. Looks beautiful!!!"

Fire Pit Installation questions, answered by experts

You should schedule a fireplace inspection at least once a year, per the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). However, this is the minimum requirement even if you’re diligent with fireplace maintenance between uses. If you suspect your fireplace is malfunctioning, schedule one sooner to avoid fire hazards or the release of harmful emissions like carbon monoxide in your home.

There are a few things you can look out for to ensure your chimney is safe to use. Check for the following issues:

  • Cracks or missing pieces in the masonry of the chimney

  • Creosote buildup in the chimney, which is a black, tar-like substance

  • Cracks, stains, or scorch marks in the firebox

  • Water stains in or around the fireplace

  • A broken or stuck damper

You should change the batteries in your smoke detectors at least once per year. Mark it on your calendar or make it a holiday or birthday tradition so that you always remember it. You should also be testing your smoke alarms monthly to ensure they’re working properly and can alert you in case of an emergency.

You can safely build a fire pit on your patio as long as you use porous, fire-resistant pavers or a fire pit mat over existing pavers. Otherwise, you’ll need to have exposed ground beneath your pit. You’ll also need to make sure the location for the fire pit is far enough away from your house and any other nearby structures.

Testing a fire extinguisher by discharging even a small amount will void the warranty on the product. Pushing down the pressure pin on top and waiting to see if it pops up is the best way to ensure it’s still pressurized. If you’re concerned about your extinguisher, hire an expert for a professional inspection.
