Small jobs welcome

"The work was awesome, they were on time and worked every day. They cleaned up after their day was complete and were extremely easy to work with through the process. Their workmanship is top notch. I will be using them again to build a barn and eventually to build an addition off the back of my house."

"Once again the experience was phenomenal! We have used Mr. Contractor before for our current home and because of the excellent experience hired them again for 2 rental units that needed some renovations. Not only do they come in with the knowledge of the tactical elements to complete the job, but with Mr. Contractor you receive so much more. As with any home project, there are always situations that arise that need some strategic solutions. Mr. Contractor's master carpentry team are amazing! They can easily resolve any issue that appears to be complicated and to you the customer, makes it appear a)so minor and b)totally reduces any anxiety you may have. The other benefit to Mr Contractor is their extensive list of building suppliers for items needed. In addition, their master plumbers, electricians and HVAC to name a few are top notch. I see how this company has been in business for over 65 years based on their attentiveness to the customer - always responding quickly! As well their staff retention is high which speaks volumes to a business. We have referred them to a half dozen friends and neighbors - all who have been happy as well! Mr. Contractor is like working with a friend!"

"I have known David for many decades. He is a very intelligent person - EXTREMELY reliable and punctual (usually even early) He always does what he says he will do and when he says he will do it. You can count on him. He is very good at figuring out solutions to things and creative ways to do them.
His prices are a bit higher than perhaps your average handyman - but, in life, you  usually get what you pay for. This particular ceiling job was worrisome - he got us custom matching paint and the result is perfect! He is completely trustworthy and completely licensed and insured.
I am also a Realtor and have recommended him to many clients whom he has completed jobs for. They uniformly reported back to me how pleased they all were and one of them just referred him to her sister who is also very pleased.
Calling him a "handyman" is a bit unfair - he is much more than that - closer to a general contractor as he can do large jobs and remodels also such as bathrooms and shower doors and such. He also owns a mirror and glass business and can do custom mirror and glass work also. "

"Frank and his team did a great job installing our new front door. The brick was disintegrated under the old frame so they rebuilt part of the wall, and they worked with me to save the old transom window by reframing it with another pane of glass to provide insulation. Our backyard looks amazing with the new fence they put in. I have recommended Frank to friends and would hire him again for any future work on my house."

"Joe, Jose, Arturo and Mauricio were all extremely professional, prompt and did an excellent job. Not only did they build an extension to our flagstone patio including a retaining wall, but they reset our existing patio as the previous contractor did not set it right. Would hire again."

Customers say: True professional

"Dan was very pleasant and comfortable to work with. There were three family members involved because the work was being done for an elderly handicapped person. Dan kept us all in the loop and let me know when the work was completed. I went to completed project, and I am very pleased with the outcome of the deck repair and painting as well as the shingle replacements on the gazebo. Dan's pricing was fair, he was timely, and very considerate. We will definitely call Dan again as needed,"

"Dan at Pana Landscaping was a pleasure to work with. He listened to what we wanted. Ten dying bushes were removed and were replaced with beautiful new ones . The bordering Belgian blocks finished the work perfectly. We highly recommend Pana Landscaping."

"After getting estimates from other contractors, Total Home Solutions delivered. Very professional, the contractors they use definitely excel at what they do. The repairs were required to list our house on the market, due to the excellent job they did, helped to get us an offer for our full asking price from the first person that came to look at our house! Will definitely use them door things we need done after we move into our new home and definitely recommend them for any renovations needed."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Building involves setting foundation posts, framing with durable wood, adding roofing support, and protecting from elements with water-resistant finishes.

When deciding if you should use 2x6 or 2x8 deck joists, consider the size of the deck, joist spacing, and materials. Larger decks, larger-spaced joists, and weaker wood all require more support, meaning they need larger joists. For example, 2x8 redwood joists spaced 16 inches apart can only safely span up to 10 feet and 7 inches. On the other hand, 2x10 southern pine joists spaced 12 inches apart can be as big as 16 feet and 2 inches. If you aren’t sure what size joist is best for your project, speak with your deck builder.

If the bowing basement wall is less than 2 inches, steel or carbon fiber straps are the best solution. For bowing that is more than 2 inches, wall anchors are the most effective. A contractor can help you decide the best method of repair for your home's foundation and also address the root cause of the trouble.

Using a steel frame may raise the value of your home. Steel is more heat resistant, has better longevity, and doesn’t need any upkeep compared to traditional wood. You can also customize a steel build a little easier than other materials like brick, concrete, and vinyl—which have trouble bending and adapting to renovations.

Most Cape Cod houses are two stories tall at the peak, although they’re considered one-and-a-half stories tall because the steep roof pitch cuts off a portion of the living space on the second story. Unless you raise the roof on your Cape Cod house to add a dormer, the interior rooms upstairs will lose some usable living space to the sloped ceilings.
