"Ryan from Solid Rock Homes was extremely helpful in designing our basement remodel. He pointed out that our initial design was going to make the hallway awkward and the bathroom tight. His re-design made all the difference aesthetically. The quality of all the work was outstanding. The pricing was very competitive. He was very easy to work him and we can't say enough about the result of this project. If considering any type of remodel we would highly, without reservation, recommend Solid Rock Homes."

"From the initial estimate and quote to the actual execution of the work, Pedro and his team did a fantastic job. They were diligent, consistently on time, accommodating of our requests, and completed the basement finishing—approximately 700 sq ft—in just three weeks. We couldn’t believe the pace of their work. The quality was excellent. Keep up the great work, Pedro!"

"The HomePro Remodelers, with their exceptional skills, helped make our project a huge success. They took extraordinary effort in cleaning up and were very considerate of our surroundings. Since our back porch enclosure has added so much to our lives, we are considering having our front porch also enclosed."

"Great service. Had them do kitchen, hardwood floors and painting done in living room, kitchen, and den. This is only contractor I will have work on any remodeling work. Worth waiting for them to do the job."

"Great work. Moved most of the heavy items in the basement, epoxy finish looks amazing. Third floor room went from blue, orange, purple and lime green child's room to a neutral any age bedroom. They tinted the primer for best coverage of old color, two coats of paint. Instead of just touching up the baseboards as we agreed, they repainted them completely so the finish would look better. This is the second job they've done for us. Wonderful company!

"Andy and Mike were great from start to finish on my basement remodeling project. From the beginning they arrived every day promptly and worked a full day. Their workmanship and attention to detail was first rate and they happily accommodated some last minute changes without a hitch. The final result exceeded my expectations and the great price made this project an outstanding value. I have already scheduled my next project with them."

"The provider did all that was promised, finished the job in about 8 workdays though the job stretched out over 2 weeks.  A few days were lost to weather.  Crew was friendly and cheerful, answered all our questions during the job.  They arrived every workday at about 7:30 AM, usually done for the day by 1 PM.  All work was done to our satisfaction.  They even improvised downspouts to lead water away from the foundation to correct an occasional problem of water intrusion into the basement in heavy rains.  Company rep was available every day to check job and hear any comments from us.  They were very responsive to us and knowledgeable about their business.  I simply cannot say enough for the quality of their work.  I can very easily recommend them to anyone who needs new roofing or gutter repair.  I would not hesitate to contact them for any construction job we might have in the future

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

Yes, most general contractors require an initial down payment. A reasonable deposit is typically between 10% and 25% of the total project cost, although this can vary by project size and location. This upfront payment helps the contractor cover initial costs like materials, permits, licensing, and hiring subcontractors. The remaining balance is usually billed according to a schedule outlined in your contract, often tied to project milestones or completion dates. Be cautious of contractors who ask for a large deposit of 50% or more, as this could be a red flag for a scam.

Finishing a basement can provide a great return on investment, by increasing the market price of your home when you want to sell. Beyond that, there are many reasons to finish your basement. Doing so expands the usable square footage of your home, so you can enjoy it more, even as your family grows. Renovating your basement costs less in terms of time, energy, and money than having to search for and buy a new home.

Yes, it is possible to turn a regular basement into a walkout basement. Doing so involves excavating the land around at least one side of your basement foundation, installing retaining walls to create a permanent below-grade area outside your home, and then cutting into the foundation to install an exterior door that leads out to the new space. This is an expensive and time-consuming project, but it can add a lot of value and utility to your home.

You technically can paint wires in a basement ceiling, but there are several important safety and code considerations. It's safe to paint non-metallic sheathed cable as long as the labeling remains visible. You can also paint low-voltage wires and conduit and junction boxes to help them blend into your basement.

However, you should not paint damaged or deteriorated wiring is a fire hazard because it poses a fire hazard. The same goes for painting over high-heat wires that connect to heat-generating appliances or systems. Be sure to avoid painting multiple coats onto any wires, as that traps heat and poses fire risks.

Anything having to do with the structure of your home, such as raising the ceiling, is usually the most expensive part of finishing a basement. Another project component that could be a surprisingly high expense is adding an exterior entrance.

The cost of a walkout basement can be anywhere from $5,000 to $35,000.
