While they both help to penetrate tough fibers and have similar designs, there is a difference between an upholstery cleaner and a carpet cleaner. Not all outdoor cushions can stand up to the harsh chemicals in bleach. Outdoor cushions are made to be weatherproof and withstand harsh UV lights. Bleach can weaken those properties and ruin your furniture.

To get urine smell out of a fabric couch, mix equal parts water and white vinegar. Gently dab the solution on the affected spot and let it sit for a few minutes, then blot it dry. For stubborn smells, especially if your pet likes to pee in the same spot, it’s a good idea to hire a professional cleaner versus choosing the DIY route. A pro can use an upholstery steam cleaner to get the dried urine smell out of the fabric.

Your schedule for deep cleaning will depend on how often you clean regularly and how dirty your home gets. If you clean weekly and keep things tidy, you may only need to deep clean once a year. But if you don’t keep up with regular cleaning or have pets that drag in mud and shed all over the house, you might need deep cleaning two or three times a year.

Eventually, vomit odors will go away on their own. However, it can take weeks for that to happen—unpleasant weeks. Using baking soda or commercially available carpet cleaner according to product directions will speed up the process.
