"The job was completed in a timely manner by a crew that had pride in a job well done. We were made aware on both mornings the time of arrival of the crew and were informed every step of the way until completion of the project. The job site was left clean and our driveway is like new again! We would not hesitate to hire them again if needed."

"Hard Rock Paving did a great job on my driveway. I had cracked cement on my driveway and the Boss Nick showed me when the workers applied the adhesive then layers of blacktop on driveway. The workers applied blacktop very professionally. The cement was all covered. My neighbors and family was very pleased. Great job! Thank you Angie for finding professional workers that I can trust."

"Great the crew came out and made my yard nice and dry even after a huge storm. They also used asphalt millings to repair my driveway and it packed down nice and hard as if it were paved."

"Matt came out promptly to give me an estimate, as well as some ideas as to how to complete the project. I was concerned that it be done correctly as a car hit my house, causing extensive damage. I wanted to avoid another mishap so that it was important that it be done well the first time. Matt and I also met at a landscape supply company to select appropriate boulders. I certainly appreciated his input. He did a great job, was prompt, very personable, patient and informative. He also offered advice when i had questions. I will definitely use him again, and I highly recommend him. It is so nice to see someone who takes pride in his work and makes every effort to please the customer."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

The answer to whether or not you need to get a permit before you start your driveway can vary widely based on local ordinances and the scope of your driveway ideas. In most urban and suburban areas, a permit is needed before building a new driveway to ensure that a homeowner is using safe materials and proper drainage practices while designing and constructing a new driveway. In some rural areas, a homeowner may not be required to apply for a permit. When building a new driveway on your own, always check with your local building department to see if you need to request a permit. When hiring a driveway contractor, verify that the right permits are being used before driveway construction begins.

Your driveway contractor will probably recommend that you avoid driving on your new millings driveway for up to a week. Keeping pressure off the freshy applied millings will help the driveway to bind together. While the sun is helpful for binding millings, hotter weather can actually make the curing process take longer.

When hiring an asphalt paving contractor to install your driveway, ask as many questions up front as possible. Here are a few questions to ask a prospective driveway contractor:

  • How many years of experience do you have?

  • Are you licensed, bonded, and insured?

  • Do you have worker’s compensation?

  • Do you use subcontractors on your projects?

  • Do you clean up after the job is done?

  • Who is responsible for any damage to lawn or landscaping?

  • Do you provide a guarantee or warranty on your work?

  • Do you give free estimates?

  • What is the timeline for completion?

  • How do you handle change orders?

  • Can you provide at least three references?

  • Can I see some of the work you’ve done?

Think of the street as a way to capture all the elements on either side of the road, including the road—a street encompasses the homes or other buildings, the trees, and the road of a given area as defined by the beginning and end of the street on a map. A roadway, however, is the component of the street where cars travel.

Asphalt is not a type of concrete. While both are a common type of pavement, asphalt is composed of aggregates (like sand and gravel) and bitumen; concrete is a mixture of cement, aggregates, and water. Here are some of the key differences between asphalt and concrete driveways.
