"Chuck and his team are truly ELiTE. From the delivery of our material to the completion of our huge roof, it’s been a breeze. We contracted Chuck and his team while being. 2 hours away from the actual project. Elite removed the original roof of our 3 story house, put new roof and ALL the gutters as well. Chuck was giving us daily updates by phone and photos, and kept us at ease since we couldn’t be there. I’m so grateful at his organization, professionalism and most of all understating and accommodating us in our every need during this huge project. My house needs windows, sidewalks, and a few other project and will be more than happy to work with Elite again. I’m happy and if you choose Elite Roofing you will be too! Hands down the BEST construction company I’ve dealt with."

"Roof replaced in one day. Project managers went above and beyond from point of inspection of roof and work needed, making minor repairs to prevent leaks if it rained prior to scheduled day, and follow through to gutter replacements. This was the only company that recommended we contact the insurance company because of roof damage found on their inspection, thereby saving us about 75% out of pocket (never would have thought to contact the house insurer otherwise)."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

You shouldn’t put a new roof underlayment over an old one for a few reasons. Old felt must be removed in order to assess the condition of your roof decking, such as rotting wood or other structural issues. Also, if your roofer doesn't install a fresh layer of felt as is required by shingle manufacturers, your warranty may be voided. Finally, old underlayment removal is often included in the cost of roof repair or replacement, so there's no real benefit to leaving it on before installing a new layer.

Sometimes. Professionals may be able to remove the old roof and re-attach it when completed, depending on your blueprints. That can help you save money. But this method is not without its risks. Larger roofs may crack during the transportation process. And if the roof is old or has problems, it may be better to replace it entirely. Keeping the old roof isn’t always possible if you are making significant alterations to the roofline.

Yes, shingles should overhang the drip edge, typically between 1/2-inch and 3/4-inch. An overhang shorter than 1/2-inch can allow wind-driven rain to get under the shingles and damage the roof deck or fascia. Conversely, an overhang longer than 3/4-inch increases the risk of shingles getting caught by strong winds, which can lead to roof uplift. Always check your local building code for exact overhang requirements in your area.

Yes, because it prevents water damage, deters pests from accessing the roof decking, protects the roof from wind damage, and lengthens the roof's life. Plus, building codes require it.

The most common defect in a flat roof is leaking. Flat roofs have minimal slope, so water pools more readily on a flat roof than on a sloped roof, and the risk of the waterproof membrane failing increases with exposure. Tears and punctures from foot traffic and blown debris are other common problems, especially with single-ply roofing membranes like TPO and EPDM roofs.
